American ICE has its own way of celebrating Valentines Day – it has seized 18 more domain names accused of selling counterfeit items. This event is already the fourth within the ongoing "Operation in Our Sites".
The operation, rapidly dubbed as "Operation Broken Hearted", is aimed at counterfeiting and digital piracy. The first campaign was last summer, resulting in the seizure of 9 websites. The next one was in the fall, accounting for another 82 sites. Finally, the previous event was just a couple weeks ago, adding 10 more sites to the ever growing list of targets.
On Valentines Day ICE focused only on the services selling counterfeit products. Within the course of the operation, enforcement agents made undercover purchases of the products, among which there were wallets, bracelets, handbags, sunglasses, and watches.
John Morton, ICE Director, said that even on holiday, American business is threatened by counterfeiters and pirates that deliver dangerous products into commerce, fund organized criminal activities, and deprive US citizens of their jobs. American authorities promised to continue working together in order to keep counterfeit goods off the country’s streets.
The seizures have been made under the proposed Combating Online Infringements Act, supported by the US Chamber of Commerce. However, the controversial legislation intrudes on the sovereignty of other countries – for example, ICE have seized a Spanish website, even though it had already ruled legal in its home country. Still, it seems like the Chamber of Commerce doesn’t care about such minor details like national sovereignty.
ICE believes that it is doing fantastic work, but wishes that it jurisdiction weren’t limited to the U.S. It is looking forward to a legislation providing improved remedies to cut off foreign “rogue” websites from the American market, which are both threatening the consumers and stealing US jobs. Of course, this is a sound reason, but seizing foreign websites having no connections with the US may make other countries to reasonably seize the American-based services in violation of their local legislation. For example, Iran can easily seize The New York Times, and Thailand would be glad to seize YouTube. However, the US will hardly like it, even though it is doing the same towards other countries.

Lets all just use peerblock or similar to block all of America. Sure, downloading will be slower, but they won't be able to catch anyone doing anything. At the very least it's not illegal and it'll leave them scratching their heads wondering what happened, LOL
@ #1 and #2....shut up..lol, the U.S is still the last country to change its laws because the mpaa/riaa says to...besides, only mexican-americans buy "made in mexico" rolex's
Bureaucrats are in every country and they think they are god. The blaming goes all around and I am surprised the Spanish Gov didn't step in? I wonder why?
I believe the internet is evolving and it will reach a point where no DNS servers will be required. I think it will be more like a torrentnet. Decentralized and truly free and no country or government can take it down or censor it....

This was just ripe for the picking. Please! Protecting American's jobs. Gimmee a break. Every little trinket, wallet, purse and everything else you buy in the states has been made in China or Pakistan or some other third world country where they've been able to exploit the people labor force. The Americans are going to outsource their whole country one of these days.
