10 people have already freely and bizarrely paid $1,000 each to Liberty Media in piracy settlements. Meanwhile, the movie studio had absolutely no idea who those individuals are or whether they even violated its copyright or not. The matter is that now the company announced a new amnesty, offering BitTorrent file-sharers the chance to pay money in advance or risk being targeted in 36,000 upcoming lawsuits.
After Germany and the United Kingdom, the US is the next country to suffer under an onslaught of “pay-up-or-else” campaigns – mass file-sharing lawsuits aimed at scaring BitTorrent users into paying settlements, promising that by doing so they avoid a trial.
Although these widely employed schemes seem to be straightforward enough, they are still suffering drawbacks. For example, US judges keep handing out the decisions that it’s wrong to join thousands of unconnected individuals in a single lawsuit. This way, the companies are left the only alternative of suing each suspected file-sharer individually, which would be a very costly exercise.
Nevertheless, movie studio Liberty Media invented a new method to collect easy money from the Internet users last month. The most interesting fact is that the method doesn’t even require any lawsuit. Liberty Media simply made an announcement, saying that they were planning to sue a whole bunch of people soon, and that if Internet users who had downloaded their copyrighted content wanted to avoid a trial, they should turn themselves in. And so they did.
Actually, Liberty Media had absolutely no idea who the people are, where they live or even if they are really guilty, but up to date, ten seemingly crazy people have already freely paid $1,000 each to the movie studio. Moreover, the company’s general counsel, Marc Randazza, has announced that the Liberty Media is currently preparing to file another lawsuit against 36,000 BitTorrent file-sharers. And now, he is launching another amnesty program – this time, almost double the settlement amount of the previous one. No doubt, they will get people coming and resignedly handing over this money.
So, in case you have acquired (or suspect you might have acquired, but not sure enough) any videos owned by Liberty Media through BitTorrent networks and are willing to freely hand over around $2000, you are welcome. Don’t take time to pay attention to the fact that the movie studio knows absolutely nothing about you at this point, pay fast!

|It goes to show you people are really sheple... The sad thing is they are most likely paying because in thier minds they are innocent; but can not afford to pay an attorney tens of thousands of dollars to defend law suit. Even though courts are now throwing out those law suits because they copyright holders can't sue 36,000 in a single case; but have to sue in separate cases.. Now if the general public knew this they wouldn't pay and tell these legal extortionists FO...|
What is really disgusting is these lawyer parasites are corrupting the legal system even further..

|The funny thing is that the content that Liberty Media owns is already in the public domain on cable TV. Guess they are going to have to start sending threats to everyone with a DVR.|

|You see, Russia and China don't give a rat's behind what the states says or anything about them. They just tell the US to take a hike and don't even think about trying to bully them because they bully right back. Good luck trying to push those countries around.||
