|Today, August 24th, of 2009, marks the end of what some have called a revolution, or does it? The Pirate Bay, http://thepiratebay.org, has been taken offline. In a suprise undermining of the recent sale to Global Gaming Factory X, TPB was removed today completely from the internet, by a shocking order from Stockholm's district court. They had reached their decision, stating that due to pending civil trials and outcomes, at which The Pirate Bay was still entangled in legal disputes with, they could no longer remain online, and threatened sever fines for TPB's internet service providers.
Rumors and reports state that the courts had threatened Black Internet, the major internet service provider to The Pirate Bay, with nearly $70,000 in fines and retribution, if it did not halt all support for the bay immediately. Black Internet, struggling already in the world economy, chose to conform, and hence, The Pirate Bay is now offline.
Legal action still remains for court battles that have been ongoing, from the top entertainment companies, such Disney, Universal, Warner, Columbia, Sony, NBC and Paramount. The funny part is, just one hour ago, a statement was released stating that media companies will struggle to grab any money owed by The Pirate Bay, as Sweden's official debt collector found that three of the four founders have "no attachable assets" in that country. The bailiff of the Swedish courts, have rejected claims made by the media companies that Reservella, the firm listed as the official owner of The Pirate Bay, is a shell company controlled by The Pirate Bay founders.
Although TPB has suppliers to support their bandwidth demands from other ISP's, the proposed and planned sale to Global Gaming Factory X, which was slated for finalization on August 27th 2009, may be in turmoil. Peter Sunde, has put out tweets on his blog, stating that, "Many may seem shocked at this decisions. We have warned all this may happen for years. Today is the day they stole freedom from the internet, today will be forever known as Pirate Day." Also encouraging his listeners to today perform a worldwide protest, not by means of violence, but by using p2p software globally, telling those who wish to censor us, "No Thanks."
All trackers for world's largest torrent tracker, and no longer scraping, and the supposed "replacement" tracker that in the past few months, has been built up to become our new choice, openbittorrent, is no longer properly displaying stats. Many torrents globally today will see that feared forever infamous red "0" where it should proudly be displaying seeds. This is in fact not so much the case, as these torrents may still be alive. An important reminder, as long as DHT (Distributed Hash Table) is enabled on all torrents, that your client will be able to find peers even when the tracker is down, or doesn't even exist anymore. It allows the swarm to continue as normal without a tracker. You can also host torrents without a tracker.
This does not mean the end of The Pirate Bay, as they could still surface from another internet service provider outside Sweden, and we are sure they will. This simply means that Sweden is taking a stance, and soon, other nations will follow, amidst pressures from anti-piracy agencies worldwide. We will see the bay again, but for how long? That remains unknown, as Thursday, is the date of the transfer to GGFX.
This is critical information to those who have not yet made the switch to the many other torrent trackers in the p2p community. We will continue on regardless if they take one tracker down, another will replace it. One site falls, another index site shines on. They can not and will not censor us. Long live file-sharing as a free and open source community.

|Does this mean if a torrent still shows a TPB tracker, that it is being tracked and traced by the no-bodies??|
Time to hide IP??
|Excellent writing OBS.......|
WELL SAID BADASS............
Long live ET! :)
|@gkskully, no, you should be using a VPN or ipfilter or some sort of protection. "Hide My IP" software does NOT hide your IP during the use of the bit torrent protocol. So that is pointless. I suggest ipfilter.dat for uTorrent, or if you have the money, get a VPN. Millions of people share files everyday and are not affected. Do not be scared by their fear tactics :P|

|R.I.P pirate bay|
|I don't mind saying, I got a lot of good stuff from TPB over the years. When I first got a computer and started sniffing around for a few tunes, The Bay was where everyone told me to go. So I will miss it. To me, the demise of TPB is another victory for the bad guys and, as much as I enjoy ET (and I wish I had more time to spend with all the great ET people), doesn't the rise of ET to the number one slot also make us the number one target? Isn't it kind of like putting a bullseye on our collective backs? Top dog is fine but it also puts you squarely in the eye of the storm. Everybody's out to get you. I truely hope that doesn't happen with ET. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!|
|sad day another one bites the dust...the ship is sunk but e.t is sailing full steam ahead ahoy mateys seed the need love m.j.|
|Yes the fate of the bay is detrimental to the existence of all torrent indexers||
