Multitasking can destroy your internal RAM

Constant interruptions and a continuous stream of new input. This is probably the more or less self-selected everyday for many of extratorrents readers / users. But mutitasking may have a price: Maybe you pay with your hukommelse.Ny research shows that multitasking temporarily negatively affect memory. The effect is greatest in the elderly, especially among younger people.

Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) has placed a greater number of people in an MRI scanner and identified some of the patterns that can be detected in the brain when a person is trying to multitask.

Through a so-called Functional MRI, they found that "working memory" - which apparently is very similar to the computer's RAM - so to speak was underclocked (slower, ed.) when there was multitasks.

Test subjects were asked to remember an image, and were then shown another picture with the face of a person. They were asked to determine the age and sex of the person on the new image, and should still remember the original image.

The conclusion was clear:

"Multi-tasking has a negative impact on retention of information in shorter periods,"it says.

The report "Deficit in Switching mellom functional brain networks underlies the impact of multitasking on working memory in Older adults," states the researchers remains that there is a pure memory loss:

"Our results seem to show that the negative impact that multitasking has on working memory is not necessarily a pure memory problem, but the result of an interaction between attention and memory," says senior Adam Gazzaley, professor of neurology, physiology and psychiatry and director of the UCSF Neuroscience Imaging Center.A summary of the report can be read . hereAccording to Science News Line confirms research at UCSF earlier research by Adam Gazzaley showing how to get the reduced memory of being subjected to simple distractions.

The new results can certainly accelerate the debate on how far the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, smartphones, etc. are really doing us a disservice (in the of the word) and actually reduces our mental resources, rather that to improve them.

One piece of advice to stressed IT plagued humans can read: Unplug - for example in the just approaching solemnity. Keep the Easter holiday from the net, drop the digital news when doing something else, and cultivate the new memory technology: Singletasking.

atleast now i know why my PC is f.up badly lolz

menahunie avatarThen this joke of an article is true then my brain is mush from all the years of multi tasking I have had to do; drive a car, talk on a cell phone, look at my GPS, listen to the car radio, pick the lunch out of my teeth, look for suspicious activity, and more all at the same time... Not to mention what I did and what I have to do at work and during work.
Yep I am a slack jawed drooling idiot with brain damaged? NOT.....

They say the effects are greater in the elderly and young"
Okay now we all know we are born in diapers and most likely we will come full circle and die in diapers drooling, etc.. so this is no new news..

Brynn217 avatarYeah but Mena! I can text and drive while most people can't because they are not so good at multitasking since their brains turned to mush... Which is why they had to make it illegal for all of us... Just watch some more Hulu, The Aliens are still waiting!

RUkiddin avatarYou can text and drive? And you never make any mistake in your entire life? Did you ever watch the Movie Seven Pounds (Will Smith)
It's about Safety, I can drive 90 mph - but it's still illegal.
What did I eat for lunch? Careful or it will result in Total Recall!

D4T4 avatarRUkiddin, I can drive a 44 ton truck, use my mobile, eat chicken and chips and roll a cigarette at the same time, although I'm not so irresponsible as to watch a movie whilst driving. That's dumb.

fusseltier avatarmenahunie, you'll probably notice it more when you get older.
as someone that used to do way too many technical things at the same time plus have a lot of responsibilities, as i reached mid 40s i felt burnt out and didnt want to live and work that way anymore. luckily in europe the people and worker has more rights and flexibility than the UK or US and its easier to get back to normal again.

fusseltier avatardriving and eating is not multitasking.
they are talking about people with jobs that have to use their brains, not drivers and eating and are not talking about walking and talking and chewing gum at the same time.
