According to BBC, the largest British Internet provider after failing in its challenge to the new copyright legislation has already launched a filtering service for malicious or offensive content. Indeed, TalkTalk introduced a service called Home Safe, offering centralized blocking at server level. The service is able to restrict access to adult content and to protect your system from malicious software.
Home Safe offers a few basic features: Smart Scan, Anti-Pornography, and False Positive. The first one stands for the central computer system of TalkTalk and is actually a powerful link between webbing and home connections. This protecting system is working on scanning a website (while you are browsing it) for malicious software. It maintains a “white list”, which contains the sites that are already scanned and approved as clean for 24 hours. The ISP promised that this service is good enough to allow you browse safely even if the website is literally mined with malware. It scans every visited site, but doesn’t provide any record details able to point out toward users or their IP address.
Anti-Pornography feature promises to completely block any site containing porno. In addition, it can provide you with the possibility to apply timed locks to service like Facebook or game portals, which would prevent your kids from playing or chatting instead of doing homework. Unlike other applications that cause “too strong” effect, this one promises to avoid it by distinguishing between websites that are entirely dedicated to a subject and those that merely mention it. For example, your kids may safely learn about self-harm issues, which won’t harm their mind.
False Positive is the feature that targets not the network but computers it comprises of. In fact, large websites could easily become the problem of being targeted by threats, therefore making “white list” useless. For example, rogue applications appear on Facebook more frequently than once a day. So TalkTalk offers to scan the outbound Internet traffic and to find out when infected computers are sending out spam or participating in large-scale web attacks.
However, the ISP pointed out that its filters are not intended as a cure-all. Indeed, it is very robust system currently existing, but it can’t be a substitute for good parenting.

|whisker87, first I would like to say that there is no need for such profanity. Where do come from the land of inbreds I presume. I mean how did the US get populated so fast especially in the deep south were it is known world wide for inter breeding. And another thing it`s bout time the internet was filtered for the sake of the kids you muppet, but I take it you ain`t got no kids of your own.||
