Australian newspapers published the articles covering the story of the US government planning to create a shadow Internet. The aim of the latter is supposed to be letting dissidents abroad to complain about their governments. It seems like this movement is a kind of some secret project, which purpose is to develop independent mobile phone networks in other countries.

Although it is unclear where Sydney Morning Herald has got this information, but the project described in their article covers an innovative concept called “Internet in a suitcase”. In short words, the project is aiming to make possible wireless communication within a wide area, linking to the global web. The newspapers also note that this concept was based on a mesh network, which works by converting different devices like mobiles or desktop computers to establish an invisible wireless Internet without any centralized hub.

The government of the United States has reportedly directed $2 million to so-called “liberation technology”. The technology in question involves stealth wireless networks, which are supported by the State Department. The wireless networks are supposed to serve for facilitating communication of activists in such countries as Libya, Iran, or Syria with outside parties. However, that wasn’t all. More than $50 million are reported to be put by the State Department and Pentagon into the development of an independent mobile phone network in Afghanistan. In order to realize this plan, Pentagon had to use towers on protected military bases all over the country under the official reason of trying to prevent Taliban from taking down the official services in Afghanistan.

While the government of the United States is expressing its great satisfaction with the partly fulfilled project, the industry observers note that it will be interesting for them to watch the reaction of the biggest pro-copyright outfits in the country. Although copyright holders always seem to agree with the US authorities, they may change their mind after realizing that this new web can work against them. The reason is simple – any Internet can quickly become a very convenient way for the copyright holders’ nightmare – illegal file-sharing.

D4T4 avatarSo if the home governments can't control it to prevent it then neither can anti-copyright organisations, by it's sheer design it will make senders invisible otherwise it's a pointless excercise.

fusseltier avatarwhy and how does the US have money to waste on things like this and give away millions and billions to other countries, but wont give universal health care to their own people?
other than the fact that the republicans are tools for corporations and only doing what is in the best interests of the corporations, and their shareholders, between the republicans and FOX feeding the people so many lies all the time, nothing can get done, especially when they play politics and fight anything that can benefit their own people only because a democrat sponsored it.

MayorMcCheez avatarmenace13, you are very misinformed. I'm sure you Tivo Glenn Beck everyday....

UHC would never put anyone in jail, if you believe that then you are a fool. The worst that would happen is a fine for people who refuse the MANY options for insurance.

If you can't afford insurance, then you will get it for free....that's the whole point.

And if you can afford insurance, but don't have it, then it's people like you that cause taxpayer money when you let your injured back go untreated for years. Then decide to go on disability at 40....

No avatarIt doesn't matter republican or democrat, their all out for themselves. They don't care about the people, and anybody that thinks otherwise is a naive fool. And until people wake up and realize when you put a politician in office that's exactly what you're gonna get. Somebody who has went to school to learn to lie/spin the truth to work in their favor, and your best welfare be damned if it doesn't help them.

Back on subject.. I doubt "everybody" will have this first of all. It's probably gonna be for select leaders and that's it. It's not like the government is gonna go around and say, "o you live in afghan here take this you can connect to the web now". Well at least I hope they would be smart about it, because this is a two edge sword in terms of security.

UHC is opposed by a majority of Americans...and for good reason. It's just the government's way of having control over your life from birth to death. That and the fact that it does nothing to actually control costs. And yes, you could face jail time, although I'm sure it's unlikely, it could happen. And as for the comment...
If you can't afford insurance, then you will get it for free....that's the whole point.
...Sorry but that's just ignorant. Somebody is paying for it and even if it's not you, you will pay for it in higher prices on some product or service you use. Socialized medicine hasn't worked any place it's been tried.

D4T4 avatarUnless of course this is just a nation wide free wifi owned and run from USA transceivers and then we have 100% American censorship. They censor and control 100% of the internet in these countries. Big Brother at its worst and white sticky stuff all round in the White House because they've finally done it.

Kinslayer avatarI spent 3 weeks in a hospital. Rode there in an ambulance. private room. tv, phone, 3 meals a day, lots of morphine, they even found me a PS2 to play.
Grand total was $115.
What would that run you in the USA? probably 100% of my income for years.
I dont mind paying a (very small) bit higher taxes then Americans do.
