The operator of the site cinema-world.biz is currently facing several years in jail for providing links to copyrighted content. The Czech anti-piracy outfit admitted that the case in question is the first one where an owner has been charged. Meanwhile, the site administrator claims that the figures used as evidence against him were inflated.
The Czech Anti-Piracy Union has issued a press release in the start of June, describing the accusations against the owner of cinema-world.biz website. It explained that a 16-year-old had been accused of copyright infringement. The police confirmed that the crime itself was running a website for around 2 years, which provided the public with links to copyrighted films and serials. Taking into account the young age of the site owner, the boy was charges with only half the prison sentence of an adult, which means that if he is found guilty, he will be convicted to 2.5 years of jail time, plus fine up to $30,000. In addition, although the crime was committed in April 2010, the site owner was charged under the Criminal Code being in force until the end of 2009, as it was more favorable to the offender than the current one. According to the new law, the offender would have been convicted to 8-year jail sentence, and as per media report, he has been. As you can see, Czech is just another country where you can be locked up for running the site merely linking to other sources.
Since the website administrator appeared to be is a youth, his sentence was automatically reduced. However, while the police provided some evidence against the guy in press release, his recent interview revealed that the figures given were inflated. The site owner argued that he didn’t load any copyrighted content anywhere, but just copied it from similar sites.
As for the profitability of his site, he said that a couple months after launching the service, he started posting text ads because the website had been increasingly difficult for hosting and he could not afford it. The most interesting part of the interview is where he was asked about having over 15 million visitors to the website – the boy claimed that these figures were inflated. The number of visitors to the service was biased in order to increase the prestige of the website, while in reality the daily average was only seven thousand people.
In the meantime, the boy was accused of causing over $7 million in damages, but the numbers likely derived from the inflated number of visitors. It also seems that the site operator mainly linked to larger services like MegaVideo, so it is unclear why such a low-key website was targeted at all. The public may think that anti-piracy operations are for some reason focusing on the lowest levels of the piracy pyramid instead of fighting the major infringers.
Similar case was launched against the TVShack site admin, but the latter is currently facing extradition to the United States, while the owner of cinema-world.biz was prosecuted within his home country.

This is my favorite part of the article. It's pretty much the same as being a drug mule. Which is illegal, by the way.
|i guess they didnt use yellow in the flag so it wasnt confused with the philippines, because the three colors are not the significant colors of the three historical lands.|

|He should have gotten a better lawyer.. if he uploaded no copyright material, what crime did he commit? Using the above 'drug mule' analogy, according to the article, he didn't carry any drugs.. only circled on a map where the dealers could be found.||
