Arielle Sumits, chief analyst and prime architect of the Cisco’s Virtual Networking Index, revealed that thus far Asia has the most file-sharers, while the United States has the least (below 25 per cent). It seems that the news break hopes that American censoring legislation is about to have any effect on piracy.
While American copyright owners are pushing extensively for online censoring legislation to fight unauthorized peer-to-peer, they forget that main part of the world’s file-sharers reside outside the US borders.
According to the computer networking company’s Arielle Sumits, Asia currently hosts the highest number of the file-sharers throughout the world, with the US lagging far behind – even further than Canada. The lead analyst of a recent Virtual Networking Index produced by Cisco said in the interview that thus far the largest number of P2P users reside in Asia, followed by Europe. In the meantime, the United States turned out to have the lowest rate – less than 25% of traffic.
It seems that the news comes as a shock to rights owners and legislators involved in enacting online censoring laws like the COICA and PROTECT IP Act. Both of the bills have the purpose to boost the economy and protect US jobs (particularly the cleverly named PROTECT IP Act) by providing law enforcement extra instrument to pursue file-sharing sites. However, Cisco’s information proves that both drafts will have little effect, if any.
Many critics have already pointed out that the problem with these pieces of legislation is that they encompass only the US, which can at the most only reshuffle dollars file-sharers are now saving by illegally acquiring Internet material. Besides, this is only predicated on the assumption that the infringers would have otherwise bought the material, which is often times not the case.
Meanwhile, the industry observers assume that it would be a more prudent tack for US rights owners to take to find out why Asia is so engaged in piracy. That’s what a number of software companies did last year – tired from years of rampant piracy in Asia, they started experimenting with lower price points in attempt to increase consumer demand. As a result, Autodesk alone more than doubled its sales of AutoCAD 2011 after reducing its price to a modest 50% of what it costs in the United States. All that the other US rights owners have to do is exactly the same.

thats why they charge americans as much as possible because the people in asia are too poor and can't be touched anyway. they know that china is making dvds with 9+ new movies on one dvd and sells them for a buck and a half. and since they can't get their money back from china, they make americans pay for it, as usual.

In the US they do it for fun not for sale, and market

I'm chinese.. here we have low income.. sorry bros we have no other way. we wanna live our lives as well like Americanos.. excuse me.. my English bad.
I can understand the point of view of both sides but I have to agree more with the chinese then the americans. I am sorry to say but I see no reason an actor should be paid 5 million dollars to act in a movie. Construction workers do more work and bust their a$$ more then an actor does and yet they get paid maybe 40k? A rocket scientist probrably only gets like 400k, and they make rockets! So honestly why pay a person so much to put a face in the camera. Don't get me wrong... I love movies.. Will Smith is one of my favorites.. but I don't think you need that much for acting.. Same goes for sports..

I truly believe actors act because they love what they do. I think the salaries that some of them expect should be based upon how well the movie is made and how well it sells. X-Men First class is a damn good movie. Thor and Green Lantern, excellent flicks. Those actors are worth the money they make. In addition, many of us still go to the movies and I still buy movies as well. But, I must admit this because it is the truth. I have bought some movies from stores and have downloaded that exact same movie and the quality of the upload from my P2P family is far more superior than the ones that I've bought. A good example is Goodfellas. This movie is one of my all time greats. I got so pissed after I bought it because the picture was jacked up. I downlaoded the same movie and it looks like you can jump into the damn thing because the quality is so good and it is so clear. What the establishment here in America is really afraid of is that we will begin to share everything. Oh, God forbid if we get free healthcare and free educations from grade school to grad school like it is in Libya and many other countries. Hell, in Libya everyone is provided a home or an apartment for next to nothing. That is what the greedy plutocrats in America fear more than anything. They keep Americans at each others throats because of their differences, be it race, color, or religion while they rob them blind. So that is why they do what they do in America and that is why it is so important to keep most Americans in the dark and asleep by any means necessary.
I am sorry Onyx I truly wish I could see it the way you do, but honest fact is when someone simply acts for 11 months I don't see them making anything like 1 million dollars. I would understand maybe 100,000 or so but 1mil? thats ridiculous there are people who work on setting up the stages that don't get paid half of that! I agree yes there are great actors.. but even so I don't believe anyone should make nearly that much for entertainment. As for why do we go see it, its simple... what else besides sittin on the couch smokin a good ole green is there to do. Oh and lets not forget there is also sports my friend, 27 mil a year.. wtf numbers is that? For spending three hours a day PLAYING? come on its plain and simple facts, our world has gotten ridiculous and we pay for the ridiculous. You may say what you wish to defend those that make that much but the honest fact is there is no justifying the amount they make for the simple things they do.
Sorry Onxy, got to disagree, when actors charge the amounts some do, they're not acting for the love of it, it's pure greed. Now, I love Arnie films, but getting $20M for one of the Terminators is not justifiable in terms of 'doing it because I love to act'.
The same goes for most (if not all) big name actors (bruce Willis/Die Hard, Stallone/Rambo, etc.). Once they get famous (and this seems to apply to all 'celebrity' occupations, like footballers as well), they seem to 'believe' they're actually worth these vast amounts of money.
There are footballers paid in excess of $400,000 a WEEK to kick a ball about and on top of that, half the time they don't even play (or at least, play well). Please don't tell me they are doing it because the love to do it, they just love the paycheck and the fame...
Saleries should be capped, it's the 'big names' (with their 'big fees') that force up the price of the Cinema/DVDs as much as the studios do.

I hate the way USA makes other countries look up to them.
They make fun of us living in 3rd-world countries.
I hate USA for being nosy, interfering with other countries' issues.
Just my opinion, haters go hate. Otherwise, hit that "LIKE" button like a MAN.
We all haVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR A LONG TIME. aS FOR THE SALARIES; i AGREE IT HAS BECOME AN OBSCENE AMOUNT AND WHAT THEY GET SHOULD BE BASED ON WHAT THE MOVIE MAKES. Say like the Hurt Locker.. LMFAO... Can some one explain so I can wrap my head around these actors egos? I remember an actor asked to play the role of batman again? He turned down SIXTY FIVE MILLIONS DOLLARS; reason? He said he was too busy... JEEZ they are way out of touch of reality. Thing is I see technology getting to the point in the near future where actors images will be recorded and then computer generated in movies...
You can write this in stone... If I even got one percent of what these greedy bastards make - actors. I sure as hell would not blow it up my nose; steal items from a store, get caught getting a BJ from a hooker in my car and more.... I would invest it and put it away for the future...
I really resent the first 3 comments, asia is not a 3rd world run down continent, and the reason we have more pirates is because we have most of the worlds population anyway. And i am sure that less than 1 percent of pirates in asia sell bootleg movies. As for the third comment please dont bring disgrace to the chinese people, and there is no reason to look up at americans, they are no better than the rest of the world.

|Problem with the Saleries is this, same goes for any Sport, Movie or whatever... Its the size of the audience... if everyone in the world pays to see it for $1.. they'd still make BILLIONS.... Then what are they left to do with their money? Its gotta go somewhere... I mean, they have a product and we buy it! They end up making millions on a good flick.... do you expect them to give it all away? God leaves that choice up to the individual, he blesses everyone in different ways, but in the end... The Actor, the Construction worker and everyone else, rich or poor has their own individual duty to help his fellow man around the world.... Yes, and those greedy enough to keep it all will eventually pay the price, eternally...||
