According to various media reports, hackers have turned over the Italian cyber crime agency – the National Computer Crime Center for Critical Infrastructure Protection, and have already started to release secret data found in the agency’s antics. While the worldwide known hacker group Anonymous claims that it obtained the files in question from a source, the Italian press widely believes that it is not true and the data was received in result of a hack carried out by one of Anonymous members.
Over 8GB of sensitive information have been stolen from the network of the Italian CNAIPIC. The widespread opinion is that the release of this data is simply a vendetta of Anonymous for arrests of 3 Italian members of the hacker group carried out earlier in July. In response, Anonymous claimed the sensitive data proved that the Italian organization is corrupt. Moreover, the hacker group accused CNAIPIC of having been using the information in question to further the desire for power and money of different oligarchies.
Anonymous released a statement saying that lots of people are currently in prison awaiting trial because Italian agency used the leaked information in the “great game of international espionage”.
The stolen data was uploaded to Pastebin and it turned out that the information has come from the evidence servers of CNAIPIC, which store data related to a number of government offices likes Australia's Ministry of Defense and the American Department of Agriculture. Besides, there were many files containing information about international corporations like Gazprom, Exxon Mobil and lots of others.
The Italian media confirmed that the other files concerned the Madoff financial scandal in the United States, Exxon and the identity files of Middle Eastern people. In addition, the leak contained official documents written in Russian and Arabic. Actually, the leak even contained a chart displaying CNAIPIC’s telecom architecture and a picture of uniformed officers supposed to work for the outfit, and the preview of this photo is already available online within the hackers’ data dump. Meanwhile, the Anonymous only released sneak preview images displaying the management structure of the cyber crime organization, photos of staff and a huge list of all the files that have been obtained.
