Recently the one-day training workshop for the Nigerian Press Council’s management and staff took place in Abuja. The event had many guests, including Bayo Atoyebi, Executive Secretary at the Nigerian Copyright Commission. Atoyebi said in his statement that widespread piracy had pushed rights holders into bankruptcy. At the very start of his speech, Atoyebi mentioned the case of Prince Nico Mbarga – a musician producing the widely popular song “Sweet mother”, which died of lack.
The statement, signed by Nnene Antia for the Executive Secretary, claims that the main aim of the workshop is to explain to the participants the provisions of the copyright legislation, its administration in the country, and the challenges that may come. Besides, the workshop was considered to enlighten on the issues probably happening with media’s implication.
The statement also read that staff of the council would undoubtedly benefit from the new law, because legislation’s governing plagiarism and copyrights created part of the provisions of the professional code of ethics for journalists. In addition, the statement also agreed that the proceedings were very important as well, because they were beneficial to the intellectual property.
In response, Afam Ezekude, the General Director of the commission, claimed that piracy had been a disincentive to the content creativity and property right of Nigerian citizens. Besides, piracy called for a “sustained symbiotic relationship” between the commission in question and Press council. The purpose of the relationship was supposed to be helping the Commission overcome some of the challenges it would face.
The participants of the workshop were told that the policy of the Nigerian Copyright Commission would always partner with the media when actualizing its mandate.

No problem, now if they'd just like to send me their Bank Account details I'm sure we can sort something out. LOL
LOL exactly my thoughts when I saw the headline. RIAA/MPAA will get that ubiquitous email telling them how much funds Nigeria gvmt collected for them, and need their bank account to transfer it.

Who is casting the first stone concerning the largest black nation in the world? Guess the meeting has no issue to the ministry down here. Remember our fore-fathers colonized and plunder their resources of which we are still active till date in the middle east waiting to add Libya to the list very soon... Bottom-line is that if you have a beautiful wife and you can't screw her, will you call someone else to do that for you? We all read our history book not taking into consideration that whosoever wins the war dictates what is and is not written. During the American war with the Red Indians, whenever they (Americans) win the war its good planning and whenever they lost it’s an ambush. In fact, whenever an American or Briton is born in India he retains the birth place of the parents... Find out where Cliff Richards was born-the great grand-mother was a Kuli. Anyway, as per the unenlightened individual asking if they have electricity, yes they do just that it’s not constant as its hydro and not nuclear power plants. I agree they might be corrupt but who thought them and who receives the stolen funds and keep in safety for them? They are returning the compliments back to us and we may be smarter now but many have falling to their gimmicks and many still will. This is not a sermon as it’s just a case of he who is without sin should cast the first stone. Remain blessed!
