One of the new studies has warned that the country was poorly prepared to manage the dramatic expansion in the capability of online attacks: a report published by the Intelligence and National Security Alliance claimed that the current situation was as dangerous as when the United States was selling design plans to the Soviet Union back in the Cold War.
The report in question claimed that the US government should develop cyber intelligence as a more coordinated discipline, which is able to predict computer-related threats and consequently deter them.
Media cites the above mentioned report, saying that cyber attacks would now have the potential to cause losses to the government going far further than simply threatening finances or intellectual property. The researchers insist that the sophistication of attacks could mean the danger to the government of the United States, as well as businesses, which has moved beyond so-called “acceptable” losses threatening only finances or intellectual property.
The report was published by the Intelligence and National Security Alliance during growing worries the country isn’t ready for a major cyber attack, because hackers, criminals and nation states are keeping probing and infiltrating the government and major business networks many times every day.
Meanwhile, multiple observations from the report reiterate the sentiments that have been earlier expressed by Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security officials, which are known for struggling to enhance data sharing between the government and critical businesses. However, up to date the efforts to develop and implement necessary cyber security legislation have stalled on Capitol Hill.

It's possible, even likely that all the news recently about hackers is merely the gov't / corporations/ elite, creating a so called problem, as an excuse to create a so called solution, which might be exactly what they wanted in the first place. Ex. Unlimited power for any kind of Internet control, authority etc.
"It's possible, even likely that all the news recently about hackers is merely the gov't / corporations/ elite, creating a so called problem, as an excuse to create a so called solution":
Most likely, its similiar to that. They are just using the Media to bring Awareness to it. TO USE IT.
Look at the most recent history. 3 strikes law, ICE, Etc.
There building up a legal Defense, Pure and simple. Then they can write another bill, like the Patriot Act. To build a layer of Control over the Internet.
Why?, because the internet, is the only still open communication medium. They have Wire taps, and can cut youre phone service INSTANTLY.
What can they do to control you online? not much right at the moment, but take a educated guess.. its not pretty.

With absurd ease, Asperger's victim Gary hacked into Pentagon computers in a bid to prove the existence of little green men. To all who know him, Gary McKinnon is a harmless computer nerd obsessed with proving the existence of 'little green men'.
Yet the U.S. authorities insist the British UFO fanatic is a 'cyber-terrorist' who hacked into top-secret Pentagon and NASA computers.
They say that Gary, who has Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, must be extradited and tried in their courts.
As "borrowed" from the Daily Mail. This is only one example of someone sitting in their bedroom quite happily hacking into the US Goverments computers, not a professional, not a government body meaning to harm the USA just a normal Joe like you and I. I'm no expert but how difficult can it be? This guy is no hacker.
I wonder if Anonymous is just a spook front to help push this type of law through without much resistance? Either way I am interested to see what happens today
the republicans can start wars and ruin the economy deregulating irresponsible companies and industries, but they can't spend money to make sure their own country can protect themselves against cyber warfare?
maybe they think they can outsource it to china too, and save them time since they are usually the ones attempting to gain access or cripple american networks and companies and infrastructure...
you have to remember, china and chinese can't make, create, or invent anything, they have to steal it and copy it, so as long as the rest of the world doesn't keep giving them all of their proprietary technology, then the chinese can't do anything.
hasn't the control of information and it's perception ALWAYS been the most valuable thing to people seeking positions of power over others?
@comments #1-2, i love the speculation! keep it up!
