One of the Internet statistics companies revealed that Google’s Chrome browser is very close to the point of killing off Firefox as the number 2 most popular browser worldwide.
StatCounter is engaged in tracking browser usage with the help of different analytics instruments offered by the service to websites. The statistics firm recently claimed that Google Chrome is about to pass Firefox to take the place number 2 behind Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) in two months.
The global average user share of Chrome for the past month was 23.6%, while Firefox boasted 26.8% and Internet Explorer was at 41.7%. The statistics company pointed out that the rise of Google Chrome had been dramatic. Indeed, the browser has gained 8 percentage points since the start of this year, which was almost 50% increase. But this is not the most surprising in the statistics: the matter is that the Chrome growth turned out to be at the expense of Firefox and Internet Explorer that have both dropped 4 percentage points.
These numbers are not exactly what the Internet industry considers significant. In addition, a company like StatCounter can’t be regarded as the universally acknowledged standard for Internet browser use. Instead, many industry experts prefer using Net Applications numbers. Earlier in 2011, this company predicted that Google Chrome could have a 17.8% share by the end of this year, short of Firefox’s forecasted 22.3%. However, if the pace of change continues, Google Chrome should pass Firefox on Net Applications’ chart by the middle of next year.
Although these numbers are not that shocking as those of StatCounter, they still indicate that Google Chrome is rapidly developing and growing faster than many of us could ever expect. In other words, if Firefox and Internet Explorer don’t take quick action, it may end worse for them.

I for one still prefer and will continue to use Firefox. Customizing it with their add ons (like Gestures & X-Marks) make it to valuable for me to consider anything else.....
I don't use IE any more. Too many patches and updates for security problems. The list was huge. I just have Firefox and google and very happy with that..
Firefox is like a clunky version of Chrome, anyway.
Chrome does everything Firefox does, saves on-screen space and integrates seamlessly into email and social networking (G+ FTW).
Rest In Peace, Firefox. I only used you to upload music to Soundcloud, but thanks for that, I guess.

Firefox is only clunky if you leave it that way. You can use Firefox w/o google toolbar and the menu bar and then you have a very streamlined Firefox. Search out of the address bar and use the bookmarks for Faves and you are good to go. I know Chrome has Adblock, but they don't have Adblock Plus which means you still have to suffer through the commercials in the espn flash videos. When will they ever fix that or add it? Plus I mean????
just like chinese products, too many people want cheap or free stuff and settle for inferior products.
chrome is junk.
firefox is still slow if you dont use any other menus or toolbars, but it depends on how old it is.
if you have been using firefox for several years, it gets slower than if its a brand new install with no history, and whatever else it accumulates... like hundreds of bookmarks and plugins you never use.
thanx for the article.....i havent had a chance to try chrome yet but im thinkiing it is going to have alot of browser add ons and menus.....i love the stripped down Newest version of firefox...no extra menus and all that other junk, ive noticed it drastically does change the speed on how fast it loads vs my sister who uses IE and is click crazy, u go to load her browser and it takes FOREVER to load up all the extra menu bars and junk she has on there, its pretty gross to load and look at lol........ill give chrome a try, maybe it to can be stripped down to the basics no extra menus etc etc
IE at 41.6% seems a tad too optimistic.

not surprised to see IE still at the top: still comes with windows, and most ppl who uses computers are not very tech-literate, so they stick to what's given to them.
how is ie still at the top when no one that i know of uses it
Firefox is best when we compare to Chrome and ie ..ie is crap but chrome is good but when compare to firefox it cant stand it only get famous bocz of google tag
@ #4....firefox has no-script, it blocks ads, and any third party scripting or cookies.
@DEMONLORD4000 You dont know noobs. The people that use IE are idiots with computers and are usually soccer moms checking their sons schedule or soemthing along those line's.
Anyways, Im a proud firefox user
I'm a proud firefox user..
Chrome is like IE, for people that does not know what they are doing and use whatever comes with their computer...

I like Firefox, and have used Chrome on friend's computers only.
In some ways I think that Google is an evil empire, just like
any company that gets that big and controls that much information.
I tryed em'all(execept for IE...dont care for windoes), i change browser all the time and use the faster, i will still change for the faster, i dont care about the apparence. A few years ago Firefox was the faster, then Opera and today it is chrome, next year i dont know ???
Try em', then choose, is not speed that count the most ?
Chrome is the best in terms of downloading speed and others stuff as compared to other browsers and i have tried all the browsers.
ie is still a must-have since there are so many websites that only compatible with ie so far, those webpages' layouts will become so messy, all fonts overlapped or jammed together, not functioning correctly if using firefox.
browsers' speeds faster or not are the results of your internet connection speed. if you're still using dsl, every browser would be snail slow. even fibre or cable connection also got lot of different speeds, based upon what monthly premium you pay. $60.99 per month is definitely faster than what you can get from the basic $29.99/mon. also, if you're using wi-fi connection, the connection speed and signal receiving would be varied, constantly changing up and down all the time, from the highest 99% suddenly drop to 90%, 89%, 86%, 68%, 54% or lower. but even you got a faster connection payment plan, the connection speed would be affected by how many other people in your neighborhood using the same channel, more people getting signals from the same channel, the speed of your browser, your torrent downloads will be reduced further. since everything you do on line will rely upon the browsers, and the browsers need internet to work, so internet connection speed actually is the major dominant factor of your browser's speed. then, again, if you got a lousy pc or laptop with not enough memories, the video card sucks, the hard drive got 5400rpm, the location where you're using it to get the wi-fi connection, your laptop and the router's connection/receiving speed is still b/g instead of /n....they all affect the speed of your browser. and, well, the more add-ons, toolbars you put on your browser, the slower it becomes, not just activating the browser but when you use it, all the add-ons and toolbars will have to functioning with your activities and make them ready. all the functions you included in your toolbars would become the weight of your browser's burden. so don't come here to blame or despise each other or one another. "money" still decides everything; how much you paid decides how much you can get.
oh, by the way, if you're torrent downloading lot of stuff, your wi-fi signals receiving channel would be further narrowed and the signal download speed to make the browser working will be further reduced. the more you're downloading, the slower connection speed you'll get. traffic jam, man, like daily happens on the freeways, even local streets.

Personally I found Comet Bird to be the fastest. Lately been using Maxthon3 and found it to outdo google chrome which I was using before.
I use Firefox/Mozilla when it was in diapers and anyone remember Netscape?
A good browser I also use is opera. small fast and i even has a bit torrent client in it as well.
The problem I have with current Firefox is I hate it. They changed the user interface way too much and put allot of the button into the one stupid tab. It is even slower than previous versions and I do go into the browser and tweak the setting to make it faster.

Chrome is what firefox was years back before they ruined it! and for ad blocking admuncher simples
I love FF, I can open up pages side by side with chrome and FF still blocks more stuff, and like some one else said, even in video streams.. Ive tested all kinds of browsers side by side with FireFox and i have to say that FF is faster and more secure as a base browser than anything else i find out there..
