Steve Jobs has been mourned across the globe through the devices he conceived himself – people held up candles images on their iPads, then reviewed his deeds on Macintosh machines and tapped out tributes on iPhones he created.

steve-jobs-rip-slice.jpg

Steve Jobs died one day after Apple had introduced the latest version of its touch-screen phone. This event touched pop culture, with sadness and admiration pouring out – and it wasn’t for a rock star or a religious figure. It was for a legendary American corporate executive. People who grew up in a world featuring iPod headphones as ubiquitous as wristwatches were to a previous generation, remember Steve Jobs as their Elvis Presley or John Lennon.

Apple fans called that day “the end of the innovators”, when the company announced its ex-CEO’s death, calling him a “visionary and creative genius”. Although the company refused to announce the cause of death, the public know that 56-year-old Steve Jobs had been diagnosed with a rare pancreatic cancer 7 years ago and survived a liver transplant two years ago.

Now Apple site, usually featuring slick presentations of iPods and MacBook laptops, just displays a black-and-white picture of Steve Jobs, thumb and finger to his beard as if in contemplation. All over the world, tributes to a genius sprang up of the highest and lowest technology – for example, in Tokyo people held up iPhones and iPads their screens outward, displaying images of flickering candles.

In Hong Kong, old and new means of grief merged: people were scribbling “RIP” and “We miss Steve” on Post-It notes to stuck them to iPad displays. In midtown Manhattan, passersby were leaving flowers and candles – real ones, but even there they were snapping pictures of the memorial with their iPhones.

Many people felt how weird was it to receive the news of Jobs’ death on the very phone he invented a few years ago. Even in Syria citizens paused to take pride in Steve Jobs, as his father was born there in Homs, the 3rd-largest city. It all reveals that Syria can also produce geniuses, if only its people had freedoms instead of a suffocating dictatorship.

Thus far, Apple has sold almost 130 million iPhones and 30 million iPads. Moreover, within the decade since the company revolutionized the music industry by offering “thousand songs in your pocket”, it has also sold 300 million iPods, which is enough to outfit every person in the United States.

Crashman_123 avatarA lot of people fail to realize that he wasn't just a great innovator, or CEO. Without Steve Jobs the entertainment industry would be without some of its greatest animated films, as he was the principal investor in PIXAR studios when it started.
Without Steve, PIXAR wouldn't exist, the movies TOY STORY 1, 2, & 3, CARS, CARS 2, WALL-E, FINDING NEMO, A BUG'S LIFE, MONSTERS INC., THE INCREDIBLES, UP, and RATATOUILLE wouldn't exist, and life would be that much duller.

kingtiger01 avatar@Crashman_123: Yes, he "Was" the Principal Investor for Pixar. But If Steve Jobs didnt Do it, Microsofts Bill Gates, would Have.

Steve Jobs: Always find a Way to increase Publicity. Publicity is Sales, Sales is Profit. Profit is Life.

giraffe avatarRIP Steve.

@kingtiger01 Why write BS stuff about a man who just died? Ipod came out in '01, zune '06. There never was a 386 mac. He was influentially in many products that you probably use everyday even if you don't use the Apple brand versions. He will be missed.

kingtiger01 avatar@giraffe - Because, Id write the same thing about anyone, i wrote the truth when he was living. I dont like to candy coat it, Steve Jobs and Apple Computer Inc. Made Billions off Advertising and research. But they never really did much on the side of Development, it was always about Case Design and Innovative interfaces. Basically, all flash and no bang, you payed $1000-4000/USD for a case, running a PReP-Architecture(386 Equiv.)

Ipod - (R)November 10, 2001, (A)October 23, 2000,(D)October 23, 2000

Zune Portable Media Player(Zune 30) - (R)November 14, 2006, (A)March 3, 2000(Vendor Only), (D)October 3, 2000(Codename:"Gigabeat S02"-"Toshiba 1088/9" - {D#2006- codenamed "Argo,"}).(Remember, Apple had Patent rights to 'Portable Media Devices Containing a Physical Storage Device')
(So technically, development started earlier for the Zune, but do to conflicting patent rights, the device was sat on until 2010. That was my point. Source:James Allard, Former Chief Experience Officer)

PReP/CHRP/PAPR - All are Based on IBM/Motorola(EAST)'s(AIM's) Power PC Architecture, a 386 In-House Equivilant to Rival Intel's I386/I686 Architecture. Running a slightly different bus design, but both are in basic comparison 386, 32-bit microprocessors. That apple pushed untill 2006, when it realised it platform was not selling, Basically because it was in the dark ages. There interface was becoming sluggish and applications had to be limited to low-memory Dev/Retail environment's.

Remember, 600mhz(300mhz Bus speed), 145mb RAM(133mhz-166mhz Dram-Bus{pc-133 Equiv.} Was a Standard Power-PC Architecture design. The same as I386 Architecture layouts... in 2006 youre Average "PC" had 2.4ghz(400-800mhz bus) 512mb RAM (400mhz{DDR1-3600}). Meaning in just basic "Core" Design, Apple was behind by about 4-5 Hardware Generations.
Although thats easy to cover up using a Unix-Based operating System, with its Superior memory management. Compared to Microsoft's Windows Based OS's @ the time.

Influental? ill say this again, He didnt have any influence in R/D since 1985/6. Apple had no real part in the entertainment industry or Computer Industry since 1985 and then not again until 2006.

Ipod Sold so well due to its Blanket on competition and Advertising(Steve Jobs). They stole a corner of the market, Happens by Competitors Every Day. Ask Sony, They know all about it.

Then came the Notebook/Netbook Era, they seen a market before Competitors. Lightwieght, Style Designed Notebooks. Remember, Apple has plenty of expierence in this market well before it took off in the 2k. Did it drive Innovation for Design? No, Take a look at Asus's G-Series and Early "Alienware" design's. They were aimed at the "Gaming" market, but went for both Cosmetics and Performance. Again, Didnt Encourage, just stole a portion of the market. Which i fine with, except all the fan-boys which would orgasm at the sight of a Mac-Book Air.

Whats Left? Apple TV? (Samsung, 1995- Made a Internet Television Featuring a Nintendo 'Super Nintendo Gaming Console' Built in. Several other company's made similar designs, but they did not sell due to Internet speeds and Available at the time.)

Everything else i can think of, off the top of my head existed well before Apple Rebranded and Sold it.

Steve Jobs Was a Great Salesman, If he would of been in the Auto-Industry, i would have no doubt. "Apple Automotive" would of been the Sleekest, Sexiest, most Beautiful Vehicles, Inside and Out, on the Market.

I see Apple as a Burden and Competitor in the Market, nothing less. Albiet, they have made Company's re-think strategy's But they have not Driven anything but sales for the last 5 Generations.
