Recently the Swiss government made a decision to endorse a law according to which non-profit file-sharing is considered legitimate. The Swiss government believes that the so -called “illicit” downloads don’t actually hurt the entertainment industry like various anti-piracy groups claims they do. However, this decision has led to a hostile reaction from the Italian government.
Italy is known in file-sharing circles for the legislation pleasing entertainment industry, which it has adopted in a popular form of “three-strikes” regime. Under this law, Internet users accused of copyright violation could have their broadband connection terminated.
Italy has issued a kind of response via Enzo Mazza, the president of the Italian music industry group FIMI (known in the country as Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana), the next day after Switzerland had made an announcement. This response was a bit childish, claiming that Switzerland was the country that had hid the loot of history’s biggest criminals, and whose banks had shielded tax evaders. Now this country is also accused of protecting Internet thieves.
However, Switzerland had reasons to decide so. The country’s government made their decision after consulting a federal study and different researches, all of which conclude, along with some other things, that piracy doesn’t actually cause the country any significant economic damage. Instead, the experts pointed out that file-sharing only affected big foreign companies.
Meanwhile, the same federal study revealed that despite the fact that about 30% of Swiss citizens aged over 15 do have a habit of downloading copyrighted content like films and music, this doesn’t really influence their buying habits in regards to entertainment. In other words, industry experts are sure that the Internet users do not spend less because they download stuff for free. Nevertheless, Italy wasn’t the only country that applied such strict anti-piracy penalties – they have been also introduced by a number of other countries like France, all of them currently receiving much disapproval by the study in question which really doubts the legitimacy of the “three-strikes” regime.

@1 1st learn to pay extra taxes lol
If every country did an independent study and not believe the lies or take the bribes from the music and film industries (we all know that's how many of our nations operate - off the capital) they would all see those industries are just being cry babies and really aren't losing any profits. Movies still gain millions to billions with theater ticket and dvd/bluray sales; Music artists still reach platinum status with CD and mp3 purchases; Video games still reach new heights of detail, intensity, and Game of the Year bragging rights. I'm all for the Swiss, and for paying extra taxes if it meant better living. I'm betting they also have truly free health care over there, too, right? Yeah. People want crap for free but don't realize nothing in life is free and it will cost you something somewhere. As citizens, that means taxes. For whatever services to be free you will have to pay extra somewhere else whether it be towards property, food, gas, tobacco, liquor, this, that, whatever tax. Not speaking generally to those around here, but Holy smokes people can be extremely dumb.
of course italy is angry, they are puppets to the corporations and probably still berlesconi.
tough toodles, switzerland can make whatever law they want.
breakdown avatar instead of italy trying to point fingers at others they should first fix theyre own economy with the mafia and street killings, poverty and shit....dont make me laugh italy !.. xD..-.-'
switzerland is going the right direction, note to world ...FOLLOW IT !!! or the time will come where you will fail hard and then there will be nothing left to save you!!!....

We have to be ready to take it to our legislators who want to sell us out here in the USA concerning this very important issue. Let's face it ET family. Our congressmen and women and our senators, the majority of them would sell their mothers for a plate of fried chitterlings chicken as long as they're dipped in batter made of millions in contributions from special interest groups. I cannot really stomach the majority of them, democraps and republipukes. You'll really begin to see their true colors once they place their austerity measures into effect because the super committee that Obama put together can't agree on saving the country or saving the rich. This is the very reason why we MUST have the internet free and clear of any type of censorship and control by anyone or any corporation. Without it we are truly screwed. They're working hard to control the internet so that they can control the flow of information more then anything. The kick backs that these politicians would get from the music and movie industry is just an extra added bonus for those fools. "We the People" have to stick together, stand strong TOGETHER, and defeat them TOGETHER. We can and WE WILL WIN this battle family. Peace!
