March 10th 1977 Hollywood: A 13th year old girl was given champagne and Quaaludes. She was then raped and sodomized. The following day her assailant was arrested. So why, after 23 years, has her assailant not spent a single day in prison for this crime? Because he is the award winning director, <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Polanski' rel='nofollow' >Roman Polanski</a>, that’s why..

Although he spent 42 days in jail for psychiatric evaluation he has never spent a day in prison for the crime committed against a 13 year old girl. After a plea bargain dropping 5 of the 6 charges against him he fled to London, then France to avoid prison time as Frances does not have an extradition treaty with the U.S.
Luckily Hollywood has a backbone and the integrity to shun such a monster...ok sorry I could not say that with a straight face. The integrity part gave it away. Not only has Hollywood not shunned him, Hollywood fully embraces him. They actually gave him an Oscar in 2002 for "The Pianist" he has been nominated several times. Of course he could not actually pick up the award as he would have been arrested as soon as he landed.
The rest of the world loves him too as he won the Golden Palm award at Cannes, also for the Pianist.

Currently Polanski is under house arrest at his Chalet in Switzerland.
He is being held as the Swiss government decides whether to extradite him to the US. On the Polanski side he is asking that the US courts sentence him in asentia and he can do his time in his hellish house arrest prison.
He is not allowed to leave at all. Although he is allowed unlimited phone calls, Internet access, E-Mail and is allowed to throw parties with as many guest as he wants. But could you imagine the torture he is going through with this as his prison:

He is not allowed to leave at all. Although he is allowed unlimited phone calls, Internet access, E-Mail and is allowed to throw parties with as many guest as he wants. But could you imagine the torture he is going through with this as his prison:

I do have to give the US courts a little credit as they are denying he request to serve his sentence in asentia. If he did the crime he should do the time.

I personally have tried to boycott any film that Polanski has touched.
Is it much ado about nothing? Maybe. Even the victim, now a grown mother of 3 has requested the charges be dropped as every time it is brought up in the media it opens old wounds that are just starting to heal. So what would be the real justice here? Does the quest for justice do more damage to the wounded?

Should I move onto Victor Salva next ??? Sure, what the hell….

godchaser avatarActually that is only half the truth...yes he is/was Roman Polansky a famous award winning and well respected director but he was also the widower of Sharon Tate who was brutally murdered while carrying Polansky's only child by the Manson Family. He then fled the United States to reside and work in a country that until only recently had no extradition treaty with America.....

This is such an old story blah blah blah...the girl waited how long to come forward? Her parents took her there, knew what happened and waited how long to encourage her to come forward. He continued to make films, that continued to make money....someone was watched them, someone was funding them and plenty of people were making a living as a result of them. Hell even London and France made money from his being there, forget about the extradition issues after all Europe has a much more relaxed and permissive view about such things.

They laugh at americans and there puritanical perspectives and attribute things like homosexuality, incest and all kinds of things to what they consider our sexual repression....

SnakeyB avatarThanks conmac863 for not letting this be forgotten.
godchaser you are correct in stating that in Europe.."They laugh at americans and there puritanical perspectives and attribute things like homosexuality, incest and all kinds of things to what they consider our sexual repression...." but they still don't condone the drugging and raping of an unwilling 13 year old.
I have only empathy for a person loosing his wife and unborn child, but that has happened to many people and they grieve without resorting to rape.
I myself feel like a hypocrite as I thoroughly enjoy his movies, I try to justify it by lying to myself that I am downloading them and no money is making it back to him, but that is just a personal cop-out.

wesker avatarWhat has me scratching my head is this guy could have sex with anyone probably with his wealth connections etc etc, why resort to depravety like raping a 13 year-old, sounds like a nutter. If i was the parent of this kid he would have never made it to the airport.

julesiago avatarlet justice prevail. if polanski were not a celebrity, would he have any defenders.

true, his contributions to the cinematic art is invaluable. true, he may have gone through very traumatic experiences e.g., mother killed by nazis, pregnant wife sharon murdered, and further still, the victim (now a mother of 3)has requested that the charges be dropped. but still the nagging question remains. what if it was my 13 year old daughter who was drugged and sodomized?

let polanski face the music. not just for his victim but also for other thirteen year olds who need protection from adults, including celebrity adults.

expendable avatarin a way i agree with you conmac863 yes he should of spent time in jail and yes he was the husband of sharon tate who was carrying his child when she was murderd in polanski's home on August 9, 1969 but that does not excuse the wrong he did to the 13year old girl all those years ago, but her parents on all accounts took her there so in away i blame them too, we see this sort of setup all the time do have to remind people of the michael jackson scandel, (WAS M,J GUILTY????????) who knows but the family got a good pay off, in my eyes if you got enough money to throw at a problem then people like polanski and jackson will always get away with this sort of thing, HELL EVEN OJ GOT OFF WITH MURDER!!!!!

vima avatarOh all you judgy people...All of you know everything so well, like you would have watched it...But life is NEVER black/white, good/bad, or like any moral wants us to believe it. Take care waht you think, because your thoughts will become, what you will experience. As long, as anybody here hasn't spoken to the girl (who is now a woman) or to Polanski, keep your judgement. Stay calm and silent, and take care, waht YOU are doing in YOUR lifes.

SnakeyB avatarVima ??..Read up, Polanski has basically admitted it, but said he was in a state of mental instability and asked for a remand (for 33 years). No one is, in my opinion being judgy they just don't like a 13 year old being raped and sodomized for any reason.

conmac863 avatarWell put SnakeyB.
Some things in life are black or white / good or bad. I really cannot think of any instance where rape and sodomy is good. Or the person that does it is a good person.

Dogsinatas avatarAccording to Geimer's testimony, Polanski first met Geimer at her home Feb. 13, 1977. Geimer said the director asked her mother if he could photograph her for French Vogue. She said her mother agreed to a private photo shoot, which Geimer told ABC's "Good Morning America" in 2003 that she believed would help further her acting career.

The director returned nearly a week later to take Geimer for the photo shoot about a block from her home. Geimer said that at the top of a hill, Polanski asked her to change shirts, which she did in front of him.

Then, she said, he asked her to pose topless, which she also did, though she said she felt uncomfortable.

Geimer testified that she did not tell her mother about the topless photographs because she had planned to tell Polanski, "I don't want to get any more pictures taken again."

However, when Polanski turned up at her home March 10 for a second photo session, Geimer agreed to go with him. She had planned to ask him if she could bring along a friend, but said she felt he was rushing her to go.

Polanski took pictures of Geimer at someone else's residence before they drove to Jack Nicholson's home. There, events took a darker turn, as Geimer said Polanski loaded her with champagne, then asked her to pose topless again.

"We did photos with me drinking champagne," Geimer later told "GMA." "He was friendly and then right toward the end it got a little scary, and I realized, you know, he had some other intentions, and then I knew I was not where I should be. I just didn't quite know how to get myself out of there."

Geimer said the other intentions became clear after Polanski offered her part of a Quaalude, which she took, then asked her to get into a Jacuzzi without her underwear. He took pictures of her in the Jacuzzi naked, before taking off his clothes and joining her in the water, she said.

Geimer said she grew uncomfortable when he grabbed her around the waist and started to move her hips around. When she hopped out of the Jacuzzi and retreated to the bathroom, she said, Polanski followed her there and she told him she wanted to go home.

"Yeah, I'll take you home soon," he said, according to her testimony.

"No, I have to go home now," Geimer said she told him.

Geimer testified that Polanski persuaded her to go to the bedroom and lie down. Geimer went, she said, but she sat on the couch in the bedroom. She described Polanski sitting next to her and reaching over to kiss her. Geimer said she told him, "No, keep away" and "Come on, let's go home."

He ignored her, she testified, then "went down and he started performing cuddliness (sic)."

When the district attorney asked Geimer what "cuddliness" meant, she clarified, "he placed his mouth on my vagina."

"I was ready to cry," she said. "I was going, 'No. Come on. Stop it.'"

Instead, a few minutes later, Geimer said, Polanski began having intercourse with her, while asking her if she was on the pill and when her last period was.

She testified that he then asked, "Would you like me to go in through your back?" Then, he started performing anal sex on her.

At one point, Geimer said, there was a knock on the door. The Los Angeles Times reported that the woman was actress Anjelica Huston, Nicholson's girlfriend at the time, but Geimer testified that she did not know who the woman was who was in the house.

According to Geimer, the woman who knocked on the door said, "Roman, are you in there?"

Polanski went to the door and opened it a crack to speak to the woman. Meanwhile, Geimer testified, she put her underwear back on and started toward the door.

When asked why she didn't say anything to the woman, Geimer said, "I was still pretty much afraid of him [Polanski]." She added that he was her only way home.

Geimer testified that Polanski closed the door before she could reach it, took off her panties and began intercourse again. When he finally let up, she said, she went to the bathroom and put on her dress again.

On her way outside to the car to wait for Polanski, she said, she again saw the woman in the house, spoke with her, but didn't tell her what had just happened.

Geimer said she began to cry in the car, and Polanski got in about 10 minutes later and drove her home.

"All hell broke loose" when her mom found out, Geimer told "GMA."

"My sister overheard me telling my then-boyfriend what happened on the phone after I got home. So she went in and told my mom," Geimer said in 2003.

Polanski was arrested the next day. He claimed that the sex was consensual. Geimer said it was not and that she resisted.

Huston later described the teen as "sullen" in a probation report prepared at the time of Polanski's plea deal.

"She appeared to be one of those kind of little chicks between -- could be any age up to 25. She did not look like a 13-year-old scared little thing," Huston said.

Today, Hollywood is still rushing to Polanski's defense. Directors Martin Scorsese, David Lynch and Woody Allen are among dozens in the film industry who have agreed to sign a petition calling for the immediate release of Polanski. In a British newspaper, film producer Harvey Weinstein, who has already signed the petition, called Polanski's original plea deal a "miscarriage of justice."

"Whatever you think about the so-called crime, Polanski has served his time," Weinstein wrote.

Polanski took a deal and pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse and served 42 days in a California jail where he was psychologically evaluated.

His Hollywood rep Jeff Berg told "GMA" Tuesday that Polanski fled to France in 1978 only after learning during a discussion with the district attorney outside a Los Angeles courtroom that the judge in his case was preparing to sentence him to more prison time and require his voluntary deportation.

Following the 2008 HBO documentary "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired," which raised questions about the case, Berg said Polanski's rights were violated and the case was "plagued with prosecutorial and judicial misconduct."

In the film, Wells, the former assistant district attorney, acknowledged having improper conversations with the judge, Laurence J. Rittenband, and advising him on sentencing Polanski. When asked about it, he told ABCNews.com he exaggerated such claims for the film to make himself look more important to the case than he was.

Wells did say he was being truthful when he told the filmmaker that he handed the judge's clerk a copy of a foreign newspaper with a photograph of Polanski with two young girls. Wells said the judge responded, "That son of a bitch is going to state prison."

Polanski fled the country before Rittenband could sentence him and Rittenband later recused himself from the case. He died 15 years ago.

After reading the interview with Polanski's supposed rape victim I'd have to wonder why it has taken her so long to step forward? why didn't she tell her sister, instead of her boyfriend? why didn't she wear those ugly bell-bottomed pants that every one wore in the '70's, because those pants would stop anyone from wanting to have any form of sexual relations with you.

Now don't get me wrong, I do not condone or support pedophilia anymore or less than the next pedophile, catholic, republican because child molestation is a very serious and touchy subject but I also believe that if you can't joke about the touchy subjects in life then what can you joke about?

Who knows what really happened that day? The only people there were Polanski and this girl. Just because someone is accused of something does not make it true, does it? except for when catholic priests are accused of sexually molesting children, then it's 100% truth.

conmac863 avatarVery nice post Dogsinatas.
Lots of research there. Couple of things. Polanski plead guilty to unlawful intercourse with a minor so he knew he was guilty. And I might have missed something but everything I have read said Polanski was arrested the next day so I dont think the girl took a long time to come forward. Yes she talk to her boyfriend when she got home but how many 13 year olds trust their parents? I think she would have told her mother on her own had her sister not overheard. Something I just read was interesting. She sued Polanski 11 years later for sum around 500,000 US. So I dont think money was a factor or they would have sued sooner. And not that you disputed it but to make a point Polanski asked the mother if he could take photos of her daughter so I would think that would mean he knew she was under aged. We would think that questionable of the mother today but maybe not so much then. If he had spent the time required in jail I think I could understand them wanting the immediate release of him. But I really dont think the last 33 years have been all that hard on him. But I dont know him so who knows. And having Woody Allen on his side is almost comical if you think about it.

Seekz avatarHard for me to imagine anyone, much less someone with the intelligence to post on the Internet, condone or brush off what this guy obviously did.
It doesn't matter about when the girl came forward or her parents motives- what matters is what Polanski did.
A mayor (long ago) in Alamogordo, NM raped 234 children over a thirty year period- he suffered from being "evaluated."
Didn't spend a day in prison.
How many other girls or boys were Polanski's victims?- we don't know.
Chances are some payoffs were made.

The case did commence and he plead guilty to Unlawful sex with a minor. He fled before sentencing. He thought he was going to get probation but then found out the judge may imprison him then deport him.

No avatarcommac863.... the current case has yet to commence, which is why Polanski remains under house arrest whilst legalities are addressed. If Polanski returns to the US, then either he will be sentenced because he absonded or another trial commenced. Let the jury address the case at that time.

However, the facts are that Polanski originally faced charges including rape and sodomy but they were dismissed following plea bargaining and he admitted unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. At the time, he commented that "He pled guilty to having sex with a minor and he went to jail, and when they let him out he said 'You know what, this guy's going to give me 100 years in jail. I'm not staying'. And that's why he left."

However, if I am open on the issue of whether Polanski should be sentenced, I remain deeply sorrowful at one aspect of Polanski's experience. Explicitly, he was married to the actress Sharon Tate, who was pregnant, before she was brutally murdered by Manson on August 9 1969.

conmac863 avatarDariaM1,
"Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Director Roman Polanski must return to the United States before the court will decide if he must go to prison for a 1977 sex conviction, a Los Angeles judge ruled Friday."
I am no lawyer by any means but the way I read this he was convicted in 1977 (meaning a trial took place)
He fled before the sentencing phase of the trial. So I guess, from a layman's point of view, the trial basically is still open. Now he may face another trial or charges should he return. I think I read somewhere else that he is now looking at sentencing for all 6 charges that were filed against him. He did spend 42 days in jail for psychiatric evaluation but that was not his sentence.
I understand what you mean about his wife being killed. His mother also died at Auschwitz during WWII. He has had his share of hard times. But of course that does not excuse such behavior (not implying that you said it did.)

Dogsinatas avatarGuess I should have made it clear that I'm not condoning or brushing off his actions. Actually I did say that I do not condone pedophilia in any way but I also did say "Now don't get me wrong, I do not condone or support pedophilia anymore or less than the next pedophile, catholic, republican because child molestation is a very serious and touchy subject but I also believe that if you can't joke about the touchy subjects in life then what can you joke about?". As for having the intelligence to post on the internet, it does not take intelligence to get on the internet much less post on it because I have seen plenty of articles, arguments, etc. that seem to have been written and posted by retarded gibbon monkeys. Well I'm off to go find something small and furry to stuff down my pants cause my testicular fortitude's cold.
