The recent report reveals that secondary schools and academies throughout the United Kingdom have been spying on both personnel and students via CCTV cameras.
The report reveals that there were over 100,000 CCTV cameras installed in such institutions, while some of them were found even in private areas like toilets and changing rooms. Of course, parents weren’t very happy to know that and claimed that the spying state had gone too far.
The researchers collected the information under the Freedom of Information Act. They received responses from more than 2,100 secondary schools and academies, which admitted they used almost 48,000 cameras overall, half of them being installed inside school buildings.
207 schools also admitted they have CCTV cameras in toilets and changing rooms. The statistics says that over 50 schools have more than one camera inside the building for every 15 student. In the meantime, with 1,800,000 students being taught in these institutions, it makes it an average of one camera for every 38 kids.
Overall, 90% of schools have cameras, which may pose the question of how the situation managed to reach such impressive level without any concerns. Experts agree that the research in question brought with it really serious questions concerning the privacy of schoolchildren across the United Kingdom, with the full extent of school surveillance shocking a lot of parents.
Many people believe that both school students and parents should be asking why it happened that the educational institutions have become more like prisons. It is unclear to many what problem the cameras are to solve. In fact, the surveillance cameras usually have almost no effect on crime, but rather have serious impact on society.

Hang on don t the cameras scare crime off for fear on being seen then caught; send those cameras over here to the u.s.a. we need them big time . .
hey rockman i think thoes cameras work. we need china to send up a bunch of fake cameras to ward of black gange crime, i dont want to be caught on video doin traffic violations or smokin weed downtown detroit, u can smoke weed and do u turns around 1 ways infront of cops they dont do sh!t, they just look at u and murmer to there partner. but if theres cameras they totally will. some crimes are acceptable, pretty much all the crimes that i commit that go noticed or unnoticed but go unpunished are acceptable specially in the D, a guy smokin weed in downtown not holdin, a guy wearing ridiculous clothes being followed by 5 black guys??? one of ems holdin the rest got gunz.just sayin, the police have there hands full with murder and hardcore drugs, but if theres camereras everywhere politicians and public officials will see cops letting good decent ppl slide with fineable offenses, if there are cameras theres a playground for beurocrats who will force the police or create a new method to fine the shit out of everyone, bam last week on camera, u had a cold u blew ur nose 25 times and threw the tissue onto the street u smoked 5 cigarettes and flicked the butts onto the grass, each count of littering isa 50 dollar fine and or 1 hr of communit service, the more money u have the tighter they squeeze ur purse(ballsac) so boo with camereras u twit, i now thing ur a traitor i have typed myself into a tantrum, these cameras will have to be paid for by the people, and then a new window of more payments from the ppl will open, cameras arent used to catch or ward of crime in the USA, there used to catch traffic violations and submit fines and subpeonas, where already getting a lot of speed trap cameras, u go 1 mile over the speedlimit it takes a picture of ur face and a picture of ur liscenceplate, if it gets b oth pictures theres nothing u can do but pay the fine. if u see it registers ur speed above the limit u can quickly change lanes and slam on the breaks and it will take the picture of someone elses liscenceplate and ur stupid face which the other person who u screwed can contest in court or just pay the fine, he wont see its someone elses face untill hes in the court room. if u do this too many times then u do get snagged by the same juristiction, the judge will bone u for your history of recorded stupid faces and impedeing traffic on each account. also, ppl that are really speeding like doing 60-100 on a 40mile rd, they drive faster than the cameras programmed, they may get the first picture taken but there long gone for the second, which proves the cameras arent there to catch speeders, there there to maximise fines, no more it was only 5 miles over officer, it was goddamn i was .5 miles over robot.

A funny dressing black guy? my god, prejudice makes me so upset
@GoreKnight: Perhaps less cannabis and greater care in writing would assist us in understanding your garbled posting(s).
There are many of us here who are neither thugs nor "hommies" or "G's", and do not understand the nuances of ebonics, and therefore are lost in your street-style wordage.
What is one "holdin" if the others are carrying guns?
So are you saying that you would prefer to have cameras to deter crime(s) perpetrated by "black" gangs, but not deter in any way the crimes of all the other gangs, such as the latino, asian and jamaican gangs? Where is either the logic or reason in this sort of thinking, aside from a seemingly ignorant and bigoted mindset?
Lastly, why not drive at or under the designated speed limits, as well as both follow and respect the various rules of the road(s) instead of contravening them and having "airs" as to the indignity and unscrupulousness of being pursued by the authorities for having broken the law(s)?
Wouldn't it be better to be preventative as opposed to combative without (just) cause?
@noeldaley: Are you trying to be sarcastic, or does prejudice truly upset you? If so, your Avatar presents counter-intuitively. FYI.
There are many here such as myself who have no issues with various security cameras, rather we (I) have issues with those behind the cameras who abuse their powers and the data/photos/videos they collect.
If they are unable to effectively govern themselves responsibly, then they should not govern in the first place, and if they are to govern, then they should never be given the responsibility or information presented via CCTV/security footage. Period.

@openminder.."holdin" means he has dope on his person and usually connotes that the individual so designated is selling the dope as opposed to personal consumption.
@goreknight...where to begin..there is no such thing as automatic speed cameras. First off consider the logistics of setting up cameras with radar in the precise location and angle that someone decides to speed through. A camera would have to be set up every few 100 feet to keep just one street covered. Second, the courts require a police officer to describe their visual estimate of speed, they must keep a log book, and in most states the officer has to offer to test the radar on scene. it isnt like a stop light camera where the picture proves that the vehicle in question ran the light. There are alot of variables in speed cases, which is why a good lawyer can usually always get it dismissed. Third, it would take thousands of people to moniter the 100,000 cameras, it is completly cost ineffective...to the point of absurdity. The cameras record on a loop, and if a crime happens, then the police look at the video, if there is no crime, then the video records over itself and erases the old footage. So relax...the real issue here is the expectation of privacy. In toilets and changing areas people have a right to expect that nobody is watching, not so much in the public arena. So get all the cameras going you want, but get a warrant in bathrooms, homes, changing rooms, locker rooms, etc!

I don't really have an issue with security cameras unless they are in changing rooms and toilets, that's a bit much. I have more of a problem with the people controlling those cameras because cameras cant do anything wrong they are designed to do a task and do it but people can exploit them and use them for what ever they want.
I live in Scotland and I remember my high school only had 5 cameras that were dotted around the grounds of the school high up on polls and that was only 5-6 years ago and the college that im at now only has 2-3 and they are just covering the car parks.
Although I do remember reading somewhere a while ago that London has the most CCTV cameras in it than any other city in the world, which I don't find to hard to believe :p

why would any one want to spy on 5 year old children in the toilets that's not good practice at all damn pervert's if you ask me
My son when questioned told me his middle school has a wall mounted 1/2 globe camera emplacement in his school toilets I will at the schools open evening be posing the question as to why they are not outside the toilets and who is responsible for watching young boys in the toilets and I will not be doing it quietly. There is no UK warrant that allows open paedophilia by male or female teachers or ministers or basically anyone with any access there are certain boundaries to CCTV`s one being they are not allowed in areas where they cause embarrassment or breach of privacy and it appears changing rooms and toilets should come into that category.

I can see why schools are heavy on the cctv. Let's face it these are kids and need to be taught wrong from right where they don't already know it. And then they need to practice doing right, and not wrong. Not a child porn issue in my eyes. I can't see how it is. And toilets are/were the quintessential place people get 'roughed up' as there are generally not many witnesses and the bullies can control the crowd. I don't believe the cameras will be viewing anybodies private parts for the boy's urinals, and it would be a push too far to monitor inside the cubicles.
If the cctv's are recording all the time this will perhaps be a good step towards making school a safer happier place and step on antisocial behaviours etc. Nip it in the bud as the phrase goes. There was lots of violence and bullying in my school years. Why put up with it if you can stop it and alter mindsets for young adults?
