Google seems to have troubles for allegedly choosing which political parties deserved attention in an Aussie election. The local press confirms that the Australian Sex Party has filed a complaint against the search giant with both the American Department of Justice and the Australian competition watchdog.
The complaint says that the company was corrupt and blames Google for illegally interfering with the conduct of the latest Victorian by-election. Google allegedly refused to run the party’s adverts in the lead-up to the July 12 election. And it wasn’t the first time that this has happened – the search giant also refused to run their advertisements during the last federal election.
In the meantime, Facebook also rejected Sex Party advertisements during the recent elections, claiming that the party promoted adult products and services. However, when this is carried out by a company, it equals to election fraud. The Sex Party leader Fiona Patten said that it means illegal interference in the conduct of a state election with a corrupt intent. Indeed, by treating this party differently to others Google broke the law and gave the Sex Party a disadvantage to the others.
Fiona Patten said it was corruption which enabled the search engine to earn more money. The matter is that the Greens hold the balance of power in the Senate, while the federal government was considering laws and policies which affect the company’s business operations. That’s why it’s to the benefit of the search giant to treat the Greens favorably.
The search engine rejected the party's adverts for AdWords – sponsored search results – claiming that the party breached the program’s rules that prevent solicitation of donations by a site which didn’t show tax exempt status.
However, the Sex Party pointed out that all other parties also had donations buttons on their official websites without providing tax deductibility data. Still, the company didn’t accept the advertisements even after the party amended its website to state that donations under $1500 to political parties were tax-deductible. Moreover, the company simply ignored the party's letters. Finally, their adverts were only reinstated on election eve, after the media reported that they were about to sue Google.
In response, Google confirms that it’s taking the accusations very seriously, since the violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act are of course prohibited under its "code of conduct".

Should google have to provide free access to parties who can't afford to pay for the advertisments? Its the same issue isn't it? What if the aussie version of the kkk wanted to promote their political platform and highlight their candidate? Google can pick and choose who they want to advertise on their net...don't like it, don't use them. This of course notwithstanding any australian law that might bar them from doing so...in that case, to bad google, if you want to play in australia better play by their rules!

@sv8pro he's from Detroit, USA so yeah
Also who names their political party Sex Party? who actually votes for that ?
Eh... Google dropped the ball - or should I say the balls - in Australia.
Sure, they can pick which person advertises on their services, but when it comes to ads for election campaigns, it does stand out like a b... eh... well, it does stick out like a sore toe when you do run ads for a party that has cozied up with you, while denying another party the same basic rigfhts -on the wrong grounds- if those same grounds were not an issue to deny the same service to the ones you favored.
Google taking the "adult" issue as a ground, makes one wonder why in Google (or any other search engine) you can enter -any- search query, and still the majority of results would lead to sites promoting anything from midget-backdoor-loving to Martians-with-meaty-"ray guns"...
Ah, but you could apply Google's adult filter in the dashboard... except when it comes to a party which isn't favored by Google, of course, because that's where Big Brother Googio throws a fit and all logic (or at the least, whatever logic Google has left) goes out the window...

@pashni thanks, that explains why GoreKnight is such an disgusting excuse for a human being! Nobody votes for the sex party hence the publicity stunt of crying fowl when google complains about there donate button.
Who's that MORON Goreknight calling a country of criminals ... the murder rate in the USA is 4.2 times higher than in Australia, and most other crimes are 3-7 times higher as well. That's NOT the TOTAL number (which is 56.7 times higher), but the number per 100,000 people (4.2 for USA, 1.0 for Australia)
As for that mark beside your name .. you deserve it for being a total prat!

Australia is a country that is developing in all factors of a country with its future global superpower and it is not unusual to see something like that. with only a few large CITIES australia is developing defense radar farther and stronger navy Asia-Pacific after USA Perhaps Google thinks australia is USA.

LOL! Australians in fantasy land. The crime rates in Australia is among the highest you will find anywhere. I lived there for 5 years and its the only time I've witnessed a murder and the only time I've had my home broken into by an armed assailant. Kids are killed for their mobile phones OFTEN in Australia. Being stabbed by a needle with AIDs is also a common robbery tactic. The locals shamelessly use racial slurs against Aboriginals, Asians, Greeks, Lebanese, etc. Not the mention your women look like hags by age 30 from too much sun.
Anyway, the whole country is turning into nothing but a tributary for China. We already have the money, the best property, and the best companies and the locals are regulated to blue collar labor. Something like a penal colony again, LOL. The only superpower status for you is being subservient to one.

|@Seksor complaining about racism by being racist makes you a hypocrite. Kids being killed for there phones, really back that up. As to the crime rate- in 2010 China had 31420 murders, Australia 209. Most Australian capital cities are in the 20 most livable list for a reason. You sound bitter because we kicked you out after 5 years and won't let you back in.||
