One of Microsoft’s founders, Paul Allen, had to admit that he was baffled by Windows 8, but later sorted the things out.
The man known for co-founding Microsoft along with Bill Gates admitted he found new Windows OS not easy to manage when first tried it. Paul Allen explained that he had been running Windows 8 Release Preview on his desktop and a Samsung 700T tablet when he faced a number of puzzling aspects of the operating system, including the dual, and sometimes dueling user interfaces.
Paul Allen believes that the bimodal user experience might bring in some confusion, particularly when you can open and run two versions of the same app simultaneously. The Microsoft co-founder also criticized Windows 8 along with many other experts, saying that it should allow setting the desktop as your default view. Finally, he didn’t like the lack of the common Start menu. Allen believes that new OS doesn’t help people to learn the new Windows 8 style UI, nor it should hide the shutdown command. He said that the developers should provide a kind of a visual cue showing that commands are available, and explaining how to invoke them. Paul Allen admitted he wished that a Power tile had been available on the Start screen in order to make those commands more accessible.
Although Windows 8 shows an animated tutorial during setup, which can demonstrate how you can access the Charms menu, this is the extent of its opening-round assistance. Anyway, Paul Allen still believes that even with its out-of-the-box quirks, the new Microsoft OS would be manageable by users and that the company has to address them in the next version. Although these innovations may prove confusing at the beginning, after you discover most of them the OS should become familiar.

8 is good on tablet crap on pc .dual opening apps.thats why there giving it away for 40 pound on upgrade.cheers sam a good thread cheers
I started "playing" with computers before there were PC's, hard drives or DOS so I am not a novice. Avoiding Apple/Mac I've been forced to live with many MS mistakes. I tried the WIN8 beta release and I did not like it at all. Until MS takes it's head out of it's butt and gives us a real user friendly alternative (read junks win8) It will be win7 Ult for me. Did you know that if we didn't have houses and fences we wouldn't need windows or gates.....
Paul Allen believes that the bimodal user experience might bring in some confusion, particularly when you can open and run two versions of the same app simultaneously.
Gee I didn't know you could do that... NOT...
I have bee running multiple instances of the same app on systems for years..
Captcosmo - microcrap 8 is a plan by microcrap to for everyone to use ONE OS on everything.
Since microcrap doesn't work very well; versions of it; microcrap 8 is basically a phone OS being used on PC's and phones..
I put this one the same level as running your system on nothing better than microcrap CE..
The handle was pulled on microcrap years ago and it is making its final trip around that ceramic bowl before disappearing into the great darkness as it should have years ago.
The best OS out there is Linux and there are some very very good versions of it. Even a version of it is running on your smart phone.. Droid..
I used to use a smartphone running microcrap mobile 7; I got tired of it being slow and crashing.
I tried a friend's Droid phone and never went back..
8 os no good yet not big enough improvment over 7
dont no were people getting £40 for an upgrade but its costing me £14.99 to upgrade via ms launch page in the uk that is
@menahunie noone has asked for you to reply to them about their post! I bet you are using Microsoft products right now.
So just post your opinion and STFU with your stupid replies to people who never asked you and do not give a sh/t about what you have to say.
The fact that your life sucks is not anyone elses problem but your own.
why does MS consistantly change things that shouldn't be changed? Windows 7 is an excellent operating system, they should built on that princible not changed it up to the point of confusion and frustration. I don't get it. I guess Windows 8 is the new Vista.
hey #4 i really had a good laugh, but i agree though.

clearly almost none of you have used or even seen to a small extent, the way Win8 works. It has a desktop mode that looks almost exactly like Win7, just improved on... and if you want a full on OS that is touch capable, and use the Metro UI side of the OS... You have a CHOICE, which most people like... At the kid who said Win 7 mobile was crashing, i think you were using Win 6.5.3 which was terrible, WinMo7+ is amazing and doesnt crash, unlike nearly ever android phone ive ever seen. Win8 is not a phone OS on a PC, its a PC OS, that has a version for the phone. Your all uneducated in this OS's capability, and someday when you see it and use it, you will be like "Well i didnt know that" or "thats not what the picture looked like" USE THE DAMN THING, because its clear by your comments, that you havent.
@4 lol i agree ive been using 7/8 for a while now 8 is annoying . def agree on linux as best os and even more so with android . metro ui on my android i tried for a day or so just the theme its pure crap lol . but paul has points with the shutdown thing that blew my mind seeing it for myself but who knows micro seems to just keep on that type of path apple is lots of hype little to show as far as much different or practical upgrades in either company ui aside flashyness aside 7 in my book trumps 8 but its like comparing two pieces of shit to buy..
that was for 5 but i guess i put 4 so it applies to both lol thanks sam for this

I have been working with computers since the early days of the DOS and DR Dos operating systems. With the advent of Microsoft Windows I have found that over the years every second version of windows is good. The first versions are crap. So I now wait for the second release. ie. 98 not 95, Windows 7 not Vista.
