A few months ago, BitTorrent Inc. announced that their prime application will become ad-supported. This move is made in an effort to provide further support for both the uTorrent’s team of developers and BitTorrent inc. itself. Unsurprisingly, the reaction of the users to the announcement wasn’t positive, so the company decided to make it optional. Now uTorrent’s new version (3.2.2) does feature advertisements.
The latest version of application is compatible with Windows 8 and features a few other improvements. The ads come in the form of sponsored torrents which can be seen on the new tab at the top of the client. This is supposed to create a bridge between advertisers and almost 125 million uTorrent users.
In the meantime, BitTorrent kept its word and made the new feature optional. If you go to Options -> Preferences -> Advanced, there will be a line like “offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled”. If you don’t want to see ads, simply choose false and they will go away.
After the application is restarted, the adverts bar will no longer appear. Despite BitTorrent takes a great risk by implementing ads to their most popular client, it is going to apply strict rules when choosing the advertisers.
The company announced that its approach had been to selectively work with the advertisers who realize that uTorrent users are the most sophisticated on the Internet, and therefore have a high bar for advertising. BitTorrent Inc. also said they believe that delivering a quality advertising experience which corresponds to highly influential and tech-savvy users really requires careful diligence. That’s why the company has had to turn away some of the demand at this time.
BitTorrent assures that its first partners are pleased with the new feature. Moreover, the company is already trying various types of advertising, along with the one described above. BitTorrent admits that in terms of performance, it is still early in its experimentation, but the company has seen strong sustained download rates for partner offers. Furthermore, it is experimenting with taking users to partner portals to see how that experience compares. uTorrent 3.2.2 is already officially available for download, but industry experts are not sure everyone will be happy with it.

Thanks for the tip on shutting down the "sponsored torrents," which was disappointing. Can't complain about ads if they give you a simple way to shut them off!
using BT 7.7 and there is no line “offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled”
there is content offer_url, but setting this to false does nothing.
I'll never use the new version.

As much as I loathe anything java and Azureus in general, it has outclassed every other client as far as torrent functionality for a very long time now and that trend will probably contiue, and with this uTorrent change I may actually feel inclined to go back to Azureus.
@guy using 1.6.1: that archaic version doesn't even support large torrents (1gb+) lol.
its sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled you need to be looking for
Azureus and deluge for torrents on my system,Azureus now known as vuze was the first client with DHT plug in by PARG (with a little impetus from JD6667) and it has been at the forefront in open source programs for some years now with cross platform and more plugins than you can shake a stick at and it still remains my nos 1 choice, also with DHT and inbuilt update-able blocklist is Deluge which is another open source Linux torrent application which although simplistic works well and so the acronym KISS must`ve been in the developers minds at its inception.

Follow instructions of @13 to disable those annoying ads, it works, thanks dwivedmanish! I also agree with @2 if the application offers an 'opt out' that works, I do not mind using it and disabling the feature. What I do mind terribly though is downloading any freeware and then you also get installed, against your will, things like a useless toolbar, links, homepage set to them, search provider set to them, etc. Seriously, that is what I call negative marketing, because all it does is creating disgust and hate towards the product because it was imposed and I associate that service or product with the plague, not a solution to a problem I had. I do not know how some marketers make a living these days, but their actions these days appear to me more and more desperate and not productive or strategic, least in the interest of providing something useful to the consumer....

Ok a little confused using version 3.2 and getting no ads; does seem trashie and slower then ever so might go back to trash free vuze. Don t see " 2 hours ago and it taking up more screen " so clueless about those 2 issues. Still have to test out the newer one mentioned earlyier here and compare to vuze and utorrent.
stick with 2.2 torrent that you make on the utorrent will not upload on this website ?
