TrendLabs’ threat response engineer is warning about the PASSTEAL malware, which is currently spreading on the Internet as key generators for paid applications, popular e-books, and other files people usually download from file-sharing sites.
The threat in question has been described as malware which employs some password recovery instruments in order to steal passwords that its victims store in their browsers.
The company found out that a number of PASSTEAL malware versions use social engineering lures like variants disguised as key generators for paid apps. TrendMicro team identified “WebBrowserPassView” and “PasswordFox” as two of the password recovery instruments within PASSTEAL. In the meantime, security experts warn about the possibility that people who have developed PASSTEAL could also be using other recovery instruments.
Most people use the same password across various websites, which can certainly help them to remember it, but this still increases the risk of data theft. Of course, for better security, Internet users are recommended to use various login credentials for their accounts and create strong and easy-to-remember passwords. The experts also recommend users to use features offered by the browsers that can help protect private information. For instance, Mozilla Firefox has a master password feature which enables encryption in order to prevent password recovery instruments to easily access account data stored in browsers.
People who are recommended to especially watch out for password stealing malware like PASSTEAL are those who share passwords across many Internet accounts, and those who forget that password sharing is a bad idea.

Of course, that's because it's impossible to spread malware through ExtraTorrent, right?
(rhetorical and sarcastic question)
Only noobs would trust anything taken from a torrent site.
EVERYTHING is suspect until you know for certain.
There is allot of malware everywhere even on ET...
As stated its the price we all pay sooner or later in the game, some years ago there was an application used widely amongst hackers called camoflage and basically it allowed you to imbed in any file picture, video, etc anything you wanted to spread and it was executed when file was opened so not activated till downloaded and opened at which time you would be botted or virused or trojaned depending on the whims of the hacker a lot of firewalls and anti-virus stop this now but many people fail to keep up to date with definitions and some think a firewall is just to stop hackers breaching you in a frontal assault whereas the newer types actually pick up and sandbox files that try to activate on download, there is no such thing as too much Paranoia when it comes to system security and to be hacked on windows you just have to sit down and turn on your PC,Linux takes a little longer.
reverse browsing was always a Microsoft thing now hackers are doing the same type of thing with this malware,it is a sad day for us all as we are spied upon and hacked by all and security and privacy are being thrown out the window across the web by the Man as well as hackers, sooner or later we will all end up having to pass retina recognition and thumbprint to go to the toilet because of acts like this in the meantime it cannot purely be attributed to one site as across the board sites are uploaded to by hundreds of people and a lot of them get large files clean them up reduce the bitrate and redistribute them using the same audio or subs file which can contain a file of a few 100 kb in which can be anything. No site is impervious and because you have`nt found one it does`nt mean you have`nt got one, torrent reactor is one of the biggest torrent sites and has files from every other site from pirate bay to ET no one can guarantee you will never get an infected file no matter how stringent you believe your housekeeping to be,there will always be a bug you just have to hope someone somewhere picks up on it,I had a browser hijack alert and neutralised it just a couple of days ago and I am on Linux running firefox if I was on windows I would probably be bankrupted by now and my kids sold into slavery.
FYI I haven`t downloaded any files from torrent reactor in several years and not on this operating system at that time I think I was on Debian last time I was using Torrent reactor and been on fedora since fedora 8 was released so shows how long ago it was, have used this site though so who knows where the attempted hijack originated all that can be said is I cut it short and drop kicked it into next week

If you own this site and were of another world, like Arab, then your software is not considered Malware, even if all you have are hand-me-downs.

jj stuff like that seems rather act as a shopsign light blinking and trying to keep you informed while live.
It is true however viruses exist.
A virus shows weakness when obvious renamed and copied system files are called for deletion forcing the real one to end. Fails often enough.
If you have written or revised an operating system, you would see how it is obvious.
Nothing serious to the lamer. I Just thank God, someone seems sensiable. -blink- -blink-
No jj things are really serious. Can anyone tell me which av is able to detect the malwrare
PASSTEAL s ?
I am presently using Quick Heal.
I use KeePass 2 for passwords. It's security is excellent. The only down side is it doesn't automatically enter the passwords so for that I use the Secure Login app + master password in Firefox. But I still recommend getting Keepass 2 to use as your password record as it beats using Excel or Notepad docs.
Avast + Malwarebytes Pro + never store passwords
in your browser + use Kaspersky Password Mgr =
no stolen passwords.
|Good lookn out Sam !!||
