Everyone would agree that BitTorrent once changed the world of file-sharing. Today, the company is focused on new grounds – live streaming. BitTorrent Live is going to introduce a new generation of live streaming. However, the project needs help from broadcasters and developers.
At the moment, BitTorrent Live is operating in beta mode. It has been entirely developed with the help of the community members throughout the globe. It is a P2P live streaming protocol which allows users to broadcast live video content. This means that the more users connect though BitTorrent Live, the better the stream gets. A number of tests with volunteers revealed impressive results: the company says that swarm sizes reached a few thousand.
BitTorrent Live works on an UDP Screamer protocol, which allows to minimize the streaming delay. At the same time, video and audio broadcast is done with standard H.264 and AAC codecs.
Right now the streaming protocol is under development, so the common user can’t use it thus far. But BitTorrent is not going to give up and is now asking the help of content creators and broadcasters. The company has made an official announcement, confirming that it has been conducting regular tests with the members and have achieved results at swarm sizes of a few thousand. In the announcement, BitTorrent is inviting qualified broadcasters to help it build something amazing. Hopefully, will see the fruit of cooperation soon enough.
