BitTorrent Inc. believes that if you don’t push forward and progress, then you surely regress. This is why the company is busy launching a new service in response to an ever increasing demand of live streaming services.
A new service is called BitTorrent Live: it’s an innovative protocol for P2P live streaming, and BitTorrent invites users to contribute to it. The system in question employs the principles of the BitTorrent protocol, which, when applied to streaming, are able to make broadcasting much easier and provides greater freedom.
BitTorrent explained that the more people tune in, the more resilient the stream is. As such, users will be able to share video with a massive audience, online – without any bandwidth costs or infrastructure requirements.
Originating from the BitTorrent protocol, BitTorrent Live is regarded as the ideal instrument to help Internet users share events to the masses in real-time. The main benefit of the live streaming service is that it doesn’t require gigantic bandwidth requirements.
BitTorrent Inc. explains that every viewer joining a swarm is actually extending its reach by sharing pieces of the file to other viewers. In the meantime, media is delivered with stunningly low delay by using a UDP Screamer protocol. As for video and audio, they are transmitted through the industry standards H.264 and AAC codecs, which provided the best quality.
Although the streaming service is still under development, it is only available as a technology demonstration. In other words, the end users are still unable to run a video source. However, when the protocol has been finalized the experts expect BitTorrent to allow user generation of content. The company admits that the experience may not be perfect in the beginning, but they will strive to improve it, and always welcome users’ input and experiences.

this is how the government will catch you by streaming on bittorrent
Live Streaming awesome .. thanks SaM for information
Live Streaming very great other some websites connected very quickly .....but ET needs lot of time and not connecting....but i know this is new thing after some time ET also will be connected quickly .....Thanks SaM For Great Info
interesting and exciting idea.
this could have great implementation potential in the educational sector - especially for tutorial streaming etc.

would this be something like JTV,? it is also a streaming network,
and some channels get shut down on a regular basis. but they are back up within hours.
Thank You, SaM for this info....looking forward for this release
I would like to see this in the Edu sector but do`nt think streaming anything not copyright Kosher is a good idea on bit torrent even with DHT plug with the volume of UDP packets required it will set bells and whistles going off in all the wrong places and it is already a widely done thing with project TV for tv and movies already so why use torrents when you can just get links for streaming.I can see the upside of the idea, but not happy in the security at this time without further consideration.
I think it needs to be proven more before ET and others start to use it and they have to work on the security side of it a lot more to satisfy me of its viability, its already proven to an extent quite simply with avi preview as was used in earlier bit torrent applications that streaming can be done over bit torrent but with everyone and their dog scrutinizing Torrents at this time I for one would not be waving any flags for my ISP to monitor.
brilliant inovation cheers
Using screamer protocol by Mihail requires a large amount of numerically consistent UDP packets to be sent,my concern would be that since such large chunks are sent from a central server such could be analysed by another such listening server and decrypted, the protocol requires several thousand to contribute at this time to be viable in a consistent stream so looks like it could end up like Antp2p was requiring a large volume of users to complete and run effectively in real time, speed over security is not a compromise we within the P2P fraternity should make at this time.Edu is another matter entirely though.
its a good news.........
|I think it`s promising news although still in the development stage, they can broadcast an image of a banner but a long way to go for real time streaming of a movie and additional worries regarding the amount of peeps sharing at one time to make the transport viable as well as security questions that may arise ,but certainly promising.||
