One of the most famous rock bands – Metallica – finally joined Spotify this December. For a long time the band remained “the poster child of not doing things on the Internet”. Daniel Ek, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Spotify, confirmed that the music streaming service is making available Metallica’s music catalog during a presentation to introduce new features in New York.
Previously, Metallica was firm in its refusal to stream its music, but now metalheads will be provided with access to 30 years of recordings from the legendary rock band. Metallica’s official website announced that the band was beyond excited to confirm that music from every single Metallica album was now available on Spotify! Metallica always wanted total control of the way its music is presented, so the band always makes it a point to be sure that they are offering the public the very best service by partnering with ground-breaking technology companies. As such, the band was proud to become a part of Spotify, which not only has a proven track record, but is the best streaming service at the moment.
Moreover, during a press conference held recently in New York Metallica’s drummer Lars Ulrich confirmed that with the Spotify’s kind of global reach, the band was ready to jump in as soon as it took control of its own masters. Metallica’s catalog on the streaming service would feature all its studio albums along with some of their “live” performances, singles, and even remixes and collaborations.
Metallica announced it was always looking for more ways to get its music out to the public, whether it’s streaming live videos through its tour page on the official website or offering their downloads through LiveMetallica.com. As such, partnership with Spotify was the next logical step and the band can’t wait to see what the future brings.

QUOTE the band always makes it a point to be sure that they are offering the public the very best service UNQUOTE
So that's why And Justice for All was released without a bass track? Yeah, yeah, best service and no bullying the new guy - they are so ethical. Plus killing Napster as if they didn't already have enough money.

The band was ready to jump in as soon as it took control of its own masters. And farther to this story ready to jump in to the seven seas and put headphones on all the fish and drive them facking nuts to.No advertising to children please.
Sound like a last ditch attempt to keep a dieing band alive.
Who is Metallica?
Oh wait, I know! Didnt they use to be a popular band in the mid-late 1980s but turned into a bunch of corporate douchebags?

Really, does anyone care?
lol @ everyone dissing Metallica... I ask you, where are your millions of dollars? Where are your stadiums full of screaming fans? Where are all the people that would kill to own an instrument you played on?

I agree with "who cares?", Metawhatever took their own fans to court- so stuff them!
@fadevenom everything you wrote applies to one direction as well, doesn't make them a good band. How can you defend a band that STOLE from their fans?

lol @ everyone dissing Lady Gaga / Justin Bieber / * ... I ask you, where are your millions of dollars? Where are your stadiums full of screaming fans? Where are all the people that would kill to own an outfit you performed in?
@giraffe: what did they stole from their fans??!!...they made a good music for fans to enjoy! who ever sad it should be free??! do u work for free??!! i dont think so.
fork alcoholica! thier next album will be named "enter the nursing home." alcoholica should rest thier necks on a chopping block.

@giraffe: was thinking the same thing. and WHO cares about this band anymore?

@ashot1473 From wiki "Metallica sought a minimum of $10 million dollars in damages, at a rate of $100,000 per song that was illegally downloaded."- that's what I call stealing. I don't work for free but neither do I charge an excessive amount for my work.
thats right #1, who cares...
metallica sucks and has sucked after the first 3 albums.
anyone with any sense would boycott anything from them.
I love Metallica own multiple copies of each album some singles and vinyls. To each their own.

As soon a Bob Rock got a hold of their creativity , that is when they changed. Not for the worst and not for the better, they just changed. Before the "Black Album" , Lars and James (the only 2 original members) had 100% creative control over what made it in the their songs. Then came Bob Rock (Producer). He encouraged Lars and James to loosen their grip and Let Jason Newsted (Flotsom & Jetsom, Voivod)And Kirk Hammet (Exodus , Armored Saint) add some input and style to the songs. They changed for the better for some fans and for the worst for others(ME!!). As far as their music is concerned, And Justice For All was their last good album, The Black album was OK and then it was all downhill from there. As for the Napster thing, Putting Napster in their place... Good!!! Suing their fans...WTF. Bob Rock, Kirks Blues backround from before Armored Saint, James' sobriety and Lars for being...Well ... for being Lars , is what caused them to loose faithful Fans and Gain just as many new ones. Its like a bi-polar nightmare.. They suck, but Rock. They are Douche bags and Not. I agree with it all, But it still comes down to ....Bob messed it up for everyone !!!!! Even the new fans... Because they have to listen to the old fans Bitching. lol Death Magnetic is the best work they have done since The Black Album, everything in between, "SUCKS NUTS"
metallica wasn't metallica after kill em all, ride the lightning, and master of puppets...
after those 3 they didn't have the bass player anymore after a freak accident, and they sold out...
they weren't about the music anymore, just the money and made mediocre at best music ever since.

@ashot1473 You called me out and I replied to your question 4 days ago. Is it your hypocrisy or your intolerance with makes you not reply?
Ok , I totally agree , Metallica is not the same band they once were. Im a thrash metalhead fan myself. Loved the first album , kill em all / metal up your ass. And the next 3 albums , lightning , puppets and , justice. The Black album was ok. Thought lyrics were good an all albums. Musicmanship has gone to poo. Lars can't drum worth crap , ego is big for little monkey boy. James is a great guitar player , but his vocals are not what they once were anymore , after the voice blowout for the ep for the black album "So What". Kirk is awesome , even though I am a Dave Mustaine fan. Half the songs on the kill em all album , were written by dave anyways. Miss Burton , heck of a bassist. I do like newstead and rob. Both are good. The thing I personally do not get , is how all of you can be pissy about the napster thing. I bet half of you never picked up a guitar , or played in a band , or spent countless hours of blood and sweat , writing and making your own music. I am a musician , play keyboards and guitar. Played in bands and write my own stuff. If you guys think its so damn easy , then you try to do it. After all how would you feel , if people were ripping off your music , as you spend countless hours in a studio , on the road , trying to please your fans. It's like working 10 hours a day , without pay. I blame Bob Rock for the down fall of metallica , and Mr. Nepolean lars who has to control everything. Other than that who gives a crap.
You people say "Who cares about Metallica?" Yet, you're probably the same people that stand in line to go see them in concert every time they come to town!
They may have forgotten how to write new songs for the past 10-15 years, but they still know how to tear the house down live!!!
Personally I think the last good album was the Black Album, with a few good songs after that! St.Anger sounded stupid as hell with the snare drum turned off! Those songs only sound good live! On the album, Bob Rock plays Bass! The new guy (Trujillo) has played it ever since! The Live performance at MTV Icon Metallica was his first performance! And the debut of Frantic!
@Giraffe - Why should he respond to someone who uses wikipedia as a credible source of information?
posted by (2013-01-01 09:55:03)
@fadevenom The information is all over the web, if you have a problem with wikipedia- take it up with them! Metalica sued their own fans, you can't get lower then that.

@Overkiller, I totally agree with most of what youre saying....BUT I think you and then others that agree with what Metallica did with the whole online piracy thing are misplaced in your thoughts on downloaded (for free) music. I personally look at it like this.....
Correct me if I'm wrong here but don't most music groups make their money by people coming to see them in concert? And if you have people sharing your music with each other then your name is going to get out there more and more people will pay to see you in concert, right? So isn't all this downloading and sharing mostly just free advertisement? Who really loses with file sharing anyways? Mainly just the record companies right? those SAME companies that have been ripping off musicians for 80 years! So how come you guys dont talk shit about them? The record companies arent paying overpriced ticket prices to see you play live. I've been to 4 concerts my whole life and all were great except for Pearl Jam. Now I know they are a great live band and all, but that show was horrible! The acustics were crap! Did I get a refund? no. Did I complain about it? no. What about all the hundreds of Dollars I spent back in the 80's when I bought countless tapes (before CD's came out) and got burned cause ONLY 1 damn song was good! Hell even wasted hundreds on CD's too as far as that goes. I'm not bitter about it.....I just see downloading as the universe calling it even-stevens.
I still actually buy 2-3 CD's a year.....but only bands that make full quality discs, Like Alice in Chains. Hell I even got the special box with that awesome Tee shirt in it!!!
The point is.....dont get pissed at people downloading, its free advertisement and you'll make the money back plus more when you tour and make money off the $40-$60 concert tickets
