After getting attention from the United States Trade Representative, Chinese GouGou.com (one of the most popular pirate search engines in China) was closed down.
GouGou.com was earlier backed up by the Chinese Internet company Xunlei. Despite the fact that the company was planning for an US IPO, it got rejected in 2012, with the main reasons being GouGou and Xunlei’s P2P platform. At the moment, visitors of the website are being greeted by the message saying that gougou.com has been shut down. The operators thanked everyone for support, and apologized for inconveniences.
Before being shut down, the website used to offer pirated material like films, music, software, games, and e-books. Nevertheless, for people who are still looking forward to illegal downloading, gougousousou.com is still available – a kind of copycat of the original service.
In the past few years, the country got rid of some of its online services, like the Yahoo Music portal and the e-commerce store Taobao, which was removed from USTR’s blacklist. Finally, Baidu – a local search engine – also decided to go legal by streaming only legitimate music on its service.

|Wow. China and India should tell the US to piss off, that they don't believe in copyrights (a western invention). Copyrights and Intellectual Property serve to oppress those countries. The United States needs China and India FAR more for their markets than those countries need the US.|
