Oscar nominees for 2013, including Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, appeared to be hits on BitTorrent, accounting for over 2 million downloads.
As usual, DVD screeners are only offered to some members of the Academy, and the film industry is trying hard to keep them from leaking onto the web. However, the screeners somehow manage to reach the masses in the form of DVDSCR. In the end of last year, Jayne Mansfield’s Car, Citadel and The Sweeney leaked onto the Internet for free download as well. They were followed this Christmas by The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Flight, and Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, which have appeared on file-sharing networks, along with James Bond’s latest adventures in Skyfall. All the movies leaked in the form of DVD screeners.
The start of this year was marked with leaks for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, which instantly became a huge hit amongst file-sharers. The statistics say that the film accounted for at least 2,000,000 downloads within the first week of 2013. In just 3 days after The Hobbit, Zero Dark Thirty and Hitchcock leak onto the web as well. Unsurprisingly enough, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained also became a huge hit on P2P networks. The latter leaked on the 5th of January and was downloaded at least 500,000 times that day. You can search the web and find illegal copies of Anna Karenina, The Sessions, Celeste & Jesse Forever, West of Memphis, and Hyde Park on Hudson. It seems that the efforts of the entertainment industry to prevent quality copies of their products from leaking online have largely been fruitless.

also - i just don't go the theaters. I've gone 5 times in as many years lol... Just not worth it, and I don't plan to go back - ever...unless there's a Pootie Tang Sequel And I pay for internet (we get raped in canada) and dvds...my money goes SOMEWHERE...
r u kidding? crappy studio releases!? these are first rate films. some are sure to win plenty of oscars and some already won golden globes. django was almost a perfect film. crappy studio releases my d*#k
they bitc and wine that ppl dont go to movies no more WHY lets see 1 out of 10 they put out SUX BLIND and not in a good way if you spend 15+$ to see a movie and it bites you dont get your money back hell the tralers on the tv are the best parts and have you ever seen a movie and your like wate i did not see the part they had on the tv thats right some show clips that they took out o the movie but used on the tv to get you to see it
Since screeners are virtually perfect 2d representations of the finished product the best poll the Oscar panel could get accurate results from was done on bit torrent, what better way to get an accurate assessment of the acting and production than to release them on p2p.

There are many reasons not to go to the theater, not to mention travel, and the cost of snacks.
Myself love sitting in my comfortable recliner, eating and drinking anything i want.
Hobbit was a good movie for sparking up, none of these things can be done at the theater.
I like being able to watch the movie in silence, and if i need to use the bathroom, i can pause the film.
no sticky floors, or sitting in uncomfortable seats, or someone's big ass head blocking my view.
all this pleasure for the cost of $0.00, that's what i call priceless.
yea true that #9 lol plus don't forget those shoot outs in theaters =0 ..
I just stay home with my wife and stream them on my xbox from my computer, and watch them with 7.2 surround sound when available if the rips are 1080p.
Plus they are free, Also they are getting fame off them so why they mad?! If nobody downloaded there movies they would be shocked!!
|This is good for most people like me. In an amount i pay for my monthly internet(unlimited plan) i can download about 30-40 movies a month but can only watch 3 movies at best if i go to the cinema. So i am at a huge loss. Well, people like me are benefiting from file-sharing.||
