As promised, Kim Dotcom launched upgraded version of defunct MegaUpload file-sharing website, which promises users to enable them control the encryption and hold the keys to decide who has access to their files.
Exactly one year after being closed down by the government of the Unites States, famous cyberlocker MegaUpload has relaunched under the new name. Now it is called Mega, and its plans are to reinvent web file-sharing. For instance, Mega implements a new feature called User Controlled Encryption (UCE), which means that only users will be able to control the encryption of the material they store at the servers, and only they will have the keys to it.
This is a result of the long and complicated history Kim Dotcom had with American copyright owner outfits. The war started in earnest back in 2010 when it turned out that the RIAA and the MPAA began negotiations with MasterCard and, perhaps, other transaction services, in order to cut off payments to the cyberlockers and streaming services.
The efforts by the entertainment industry resulted in a raid on Kim Dotcom’s house in New Zealand on January 19th, 2012. But 6 months after arrest a local court decided the warrant to seize MegaUpload assets was illegal, as well as a decision to remove evidence from New Zealand to be examined in the United States before it could be properly examined by MegaUpload and New Zealand authorities.
Since the court so far sides with MegaUpload, Kim Dotcom announced that he was developing a new file-hosting service. His work has obviously paid off, and thanks to abovementioned User Controlled Encryption, the new service seems to deliver the total privacy that was originally promised. The matter is that even if the copyright outfits demand that Mega turn over users’ files for examination, they would still have to contend with the very powerful 2048-bit RSA encryption keys.
The new site looks simpler, more intuitive, and safer than before. Maybe that’s why Mega had been overloaded with the requests to register: there were 100,000 registered users just 1 hour after the site launched and over a million within the first 24 hours.
Mega offers free account with 50GB storage and unspecified amount of bandwidth, as well as paid accounts that range 500GB to 4TB storage and cost up to $29.99 per month.

sorry to see that some people have a small mind and can`t see past there nose when it comes to the internet and freedom
Can Mega be used for torrent purposes, i.e. be a free seedbox for 50GB of 'legal / not copyright infringing' files?
@8 yes it offers 50gb of free uploading and your own encryption keys which means you share it with who you choose to and removes the culpability for sharing it whatever IT is back to you,2048 bit encryption.
with the volume of people worldwide that will want to get on his cloud they may experience some delays, most notably for those in the USA if the D.O.J have anything to say on the matter ,but you can`t keep a good man down or even a great fat man for thaat matter ,lol.

Hum so far no luck getting on to the site very curious can anyone pm me with a working link thanks.
|@17, Rockman, still no luck? I opened an account and it worked right away, no problems. Every time you go on the main website mega.co.nz, it may take a few seconds to load and you have that cloud and wheels icon running during the waiting/loading time, but I haven't had any log-in problems so far. If you can't access, perhaps there is something prohibiting to access it from your ISP end? I love having a secure 50GB cloud now and hope it will last a very long time. Good on you Kim & Mega!||
