New record is achieved by Italian file-sharing industry: a few days ago it became known that the operator of file-sharing website ItalianShare.net, who had been arrested last July, has received the largest fine ever given by Italian authorities – €6.4 million, or around $8.5 million. This is a huge amount even for the United Stated, so the Italian Music Industry Federation must be very proud of this figure.
The file-sharing portal ItalianShare.net had about 300,000 active users and, according to claimants, contained almost 30,000 links to copyright violating material. This illegal content could be downloaded through cyberlockers, BitTorrent and eD2K. According to the reports, the “lucky” operator, aside from copyright violation, was also charged with tax fraud and other felonies.
Italian government claim that the operator, revealed only as PG, managed to generate via his file-sharing website a profit of at least €580,000, mostly derived from advertisements and donations. Following a case brought against him by the Finance Guard’s local office in Agropoli, an individual has got a staggering €6.4 million fine from the Salermo provincial judicial authority.

Awesome, $8.5 million buys a lot of pasta, I suppose we can cut the subsidies for these useless parasites then.
Ah Italy.. Where one can pimp teenage girls and still be a respectable politician, but you will get punished heavily for providing some links on the internet.

LoL at the the 3 comments above me ... Italy still has the best laws when it comes to persecuting people downloading material. It's more the cyber locker profit makers who get busted, and any individual making a profit from piracy.
No 3 strikes no letters no cases of the internet being disconnected for anyone as i goes against basic Human Rights...
The fine dished out wasn't only for the piracy, bt for other issues PG faced as well.
Any Government that needs to be bailed out by the mafia and has a porn star as an MP should`nt look down its nose and fine someone doing a service to its populace, but as previously mentioned they are happy to take revenue from any source they can even if it is a disservice in regards the Italian membership.
