“Six-Strikes” Regime Now Active in America

Now American citizens will be “properly educated” about copyright: they will find out what unauthorized file-sharing means and what price they will have to pay if they break the rules. In other words, the so-called “six-strikes” regime is finally enforced and ready to take on piracy.

3d_copyright.jpg
Jill Lesser, an executive director at the Center For Copyright Information, claimed these days are the beginning of a new era of file-sharers in the United States, namely the implementation phase of the Copyright Alert System (CAS). Lesser announced that implementation marks the culmination of long work on this “ground breaking and collaborative” attempt to fight Internet piracy and promote the legal use of digital music, films and TV shows. The Copyright Alert System offers a new way to reach users who may participate in P2P piracy.

In the meantime, industry observers point out that the good news is that the “six-strikes” system doesn’t include disconnection from the Internet. Nevertheless, users who get caught downloading copyrighted material may have to deal with throttling bandwidth, a downgrade to their online package, and a connection bypass. These measures may be applied to the infringers until they complete an Internet education program on copyright.

In short words, after you receive a warning letter as a first strike, you can file a request to challenge the accusation by paying a fee of $35. In case the accusation appears false, you’ll get your money back.

The CCI explained that public Wi-Fi hotspots aren’t to be tempered with, along with business networks. In a few days the participating Internet service providers are expected to start rolling out the system. In other words, the anti-piracy outfit’s content partners will start sending notices of alleged copyright infringement to broadband providers, who will start forwarding those notices as Copyright Alerts to their subscribers.

The next move seems to differ across Internet providers. For instance, AT&T admitted it may block its subscribers’ access to the most popular “notorious” websites until they complete a copyright course, while Verizon was going to temper with repeated infringers’ download and upload speeds. As for TWC, this one might even temporarily block access to the web.

Rockman avatar5 ) 1karl1`- your comment makes no sense can t figure out what you mean.

So what do we use to stay safe; umn can peerblock still do it or do we need to add a VPN or do we need to upgrade and get a seed box with or without using a VPN so what now this is very very scary so what know need ideas fast . . wonder why providers are rolling over playing dead ratting our users how legal is this . .

No avatarIf you want to see this change to your benefit, when your isp contacts you, tell them to cancel your internet then. You have to talk to them like you have the power and you do "Money". Its their loss and your gain. Tell them that you will just go to a WIFI coffee shop or your local eatery until they change their tune. Stick with it for awhile, they want your money, bottom line. Enough people do this and you will see this BS dropped. Hell I dropped cable 3 yrs ago.Their begging me to come back, I tell them that until they let me rent the channels I want individually, so long.

Hum not to sure if enough folks would do that but great idea but in the real world need huge numbers so that providers will tell hollywood to get lost . . cable here is good so no issues with that . .

fusseltier avatardownloading is nothing different than making a cassette of an album or using a vcr to record something.
in the beginning, even those and scanners were fought tooth and nail...
they even had to make scanners not be able to be used as a photo copier in the beginning.
and they can't prove they lose money... if they did lose money, how did terrible movies like avatar become the highest grossing movie of all time? and how are they making all the millions at the box office if downloading is making them lose money?
its not. its just an excuse because of their bad management techniques...

No avatarwell..staying out of it a big +ve of living in east... On the other hand, it will reach us soon enough after they lock up few people in west. or, they bite the dust and come to Pakistan to recover their cost. In either case, they only need $$$s to make $$$$$$$$. they can offer $$$ to some1 like mr president he will pass a death sentence for every computer involved in file sharing and we will get 10+ years without hearing with ever thing we own taken to pay off huge debts.

Rockman avatar13 } highboi - Ok whats the big deal with utorrent showing a peerlist; should i care; hasn t it always showed a peerlist and its never been a biggy ? Using vuze here seems a lot faster less bells and whisles and their others to try; so wondering if peerblock can always keep us safe; and do we need a V P N or is the only answer using a seed box; with 6 strikes almost here and now the latest anti peer to peer trackers that needs to be blocked . .

14 ) vetich - yes some vpns do slow down your speed and downloading and cap you month to month and some don t its just a matter of hunting for one that best for you - trial and error let me know will need one here . .

No avatar@11 it is not the same as just making a tape of an album or a vhs copy. u can try 2 rationalize it any way u want, but doesnt make it true. i can make an exact copy of a dvd/blu-ray that i never bought. i can c screeners/r5s/n even cams of movies just out n theaters. times that by millions of people. it just is not the same. makin a tape of an album that u already bought was a lot of trouble. same w/ vhs, and not as many people did it. plus quality was crap.

n this already existed. just different. people were already gettin cable cut off. didnt stop nuthin. so try again. u guys comin up w/ dis crap r dumb. shouldnt they be hirin smart people?

bobpa avatar@ veitch I have not notice any slow down Downloading or seeding w/ HMA, Rockmam I think is right, depends on vpn service. I've jump around to different countries, and speed stayed about the same, the thing I don't like about HMA is that they do log.

No avatarThey better start putting this idea out of there heads with this Six-Strikes” Regime in USA, if this is active now they better stop it before they start losing people this is the handy work of load of government's that do not respect us in general. The internet is not their property they buy it as the same as we do. I know they do not own the Internet, even the ISP's that provide the services that we use or connect with. Like i am going to say money talks bullshit walks. That's a saying and not being rude.

ezkapaid avatarisnt piracy like 75% of an isp's business? Any site that blocks TPB, they just tell everyone the number to cancel their service, and that isp loses half its customers in a few days. The web is 40% porn, 50% bootleg media, and 10% wikipedia and ebay. Good luck coppers.

drnev64 avatarCan i take the movie makers to court for stealing from me cos i have paid to watch films at the cinema that have been advertised as the scariest film ever made like blair witch, the possession, woman in black ect and then films advertised as a true story like paranormal activity which has 3 different endings surely if its a true story then there can only be one ending.I say false advertising or the missrepresentation of goods act,and if everyone takes them to court over it they will be skint and wont be able to take anyone else to court.

No avatarThis is not about copyright infringement, it is about controlling the last forum of free expression, freedom of speech, and the right to peaceable assembly. The mainstream media has, as most who pay attention already know, been under complete corporate control for sometime now. The last place those who want to know the truth, and are willing to invest a little time doing research, can find it, is the internet. This ruse of using copyright infringement as a means of controlling what web sites you may have access to and those you cannot, should be very carefully scrutinized to prevent it from being abused, and Americans civil rights further eroded. Be afraid, be very afraid.
