After the US Congress failed to monopolize the worldwide web with absurd laws like SOPA, it didn’t give up. The politicians were recently presented with the option of making streaming of copyrighted material a full pledged felony.
Of course, the music industry has never been the only one interested in destroying BitTorrent – movie and TV studios have the same goal, having been fighting against P2P for almost a decade. Although crackdowns happen and thousands of users find themselves plunged into copyright lawsuits, illegal file-sharing still keeps on thriving.
So, the American government finds itself in a difficult position, particularly after the web turned out to be a living organism having its own will and no tolerance for manipulation and censorship. In order to tackle the problem, the “six-strikes” legislation was enforced – a program intended to “educate” American citizens about copyright and its violation.
However, people are only being taught that downloading and uploading of copyrighted material online is against the law, but nothing is said about streaming. In the meantime, the number of streaming services increases every day, which becomes a huge problem. The U.S. Register of Copyrights believes that there must be a way to tackle this problem. Since law enforcement can go after the distribution of copyright content, they can also pursue them in a meaningful way as they are felonies rather than misdemeanors. Thus, streaming, no matter of what content, is a misdemeanor. If there is unauthorized streaming happening, particularly in a profit-driven kind of way, how does one get at that activity if the best that they can do is pursue them for a misdemeanor? That’s what the U.S. Register of Copyrights is asking about.
The representatives of a Swedish anti-piracy outfit which tried to banish The Pirate Bay out of Sweden also admitted that streaming is a growing problem for the industry. The creators believe that it is largely irrelevant what kind of technology is used as long as they lose sales, so legislators have to solve this problem. Despite the fact that streaming services have nothing to worry about at the moment, some of the experts warn that a storm might be coming soon.

Ya gotta love them yanks aintcha, these are the same people who, behind their own peoples backs smuggled tons and tons of coke, smack and anything else they could sell into their country so they could take the money and fund their little terrorist groups in C. America, who raped, tortured and murdered women and children for "freedom". How the f### they got the front to stand there and preach to us about what "criminals" we are! Someone should think up a more extreme word than hypocrite for these people

@ 1, problem is most Americans have been sucked in by all the propaganda since 9/11. Now I'm not spouting any conspiracy theory's but 12 years later, who are the winners and losers of that horrible day? There's no winners but there certainly are some big losers.
People of Afghanistan and Iraq seemed to have taken the brunt, Afghanistan, there was a logic behind it. Even though its been proved over hundreds of years, its a war you can't and won't win. Iraq, well the American Government & military just lied through their teeth. I'm no supporter of Saddam but don't like seeing cars bombs going off left, right and center, killing any innocent man, woman or child that was to close in Iraq these days.
As you say hypocrite is not a strong enough word to use, when it comes to USA's hypocrisy around the world.
How many democratically elected leaders have they removed to install dictators who have a much more friendly approach to the good ole wholesome US of A, in the last 40 or 50 years?
America for Democracy? Where? If their the future of a world run by the people for the people, then God help us all.
Taking control of the internet, is just another step towards America controlling what we see, hear and read about whats really happening in the world.
Most Americans I've met have been good people who want the same as all of us, shame their Government has a different agenda.
It all comes down to money and power in my opinion. Those that have want more, and those that don't have are the ones being hounded about violating these petty copyright violations. Extratorrent is not just a great site, but a community as well.

They finally admitted what we all known years ago that it's a losing
battle trying to stop piracy. What they're gonna do, lock everyone
up allover the world in a already crowded US prison system for a
crappy low quality movie or Mp3 download. It's cost over $30,000 to
keep someone lock up for one year in the US prison system. Get real.
Just another scare tactic!
|First of all, do not equate the American people with the American government. Democracy is an illusion in America, as evidenced by the low voter turnout, this is known by most Americans. Secondly, stop talking about countries as though they still exist. There are no more borders. There is only a world economy. A world economy controlled by a handful of powerful mega-corporations. I suggest you all wake up and see the enemy is a common one for us all. The internet is under attack because it is the last bastion of free speech and the free exchange of idea's. It is the last remaining flow of information that "they" do not control. This has never been about copyright infringement, it is about controlling the last remaining source of news and information on the planet. Fight for it.||
