Within the past few years the United Kingdom has been doing everything it could to tackle piracy. Finally, the country’s High Court forced ISPs to block access to the most popular torrent index in the world, The Pirate Bay, and a few other file-sharing services, including Kat.Ph, H33t, and Fenopy. Although ExtraTorrent remains accessible, the situation may change, and this guide will help you in case of need. The UK residents willing to keep accessing their favourite file-sharing sites can use a number of alternatives to do so.
1. The Onion Router (TOR)
TOR is a complex system allowing you to hide your true IP address via various online layers of anonymity, and this is why it is called Onion. As far as security is concerned, you don’t need to worry, because your data will be encrypted and re-encrypted many times, plus it will be sent via a succession of TOR relays. If you want to install and try TOR, visit https://www.torproject.org/ and download the app, which works on almost any OS – Windows, Apple and Linux/UNIX. Extract the archive and open the extracted folder to start browsing by double-clicking the “Start Tor Browser” executable. After you do so, you’ll see another window (the Vidalia Control Panel), together with an Internet browser demonstrating which IP address you’re currently using. In addition, the Vidalia Control Panel offers you a lot of features, like establishing your connection through TOR and appearance. You can also install the Torbutton for easier access.
2. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
In short words, VPN service is a private network which enables virtual encrypted connections that are hidden from prying eyes. It works by routing all of your Internet traffic via remote servers from all over the world. Basically, it’s a proxy service, but with more hip.
MAFIAAFire is a plugin for Firefox and Google Chrome, which allows users to access portals that are either blocked or seized. Basically, it is an Internet browser redirector – in case a domain name of the website is seized, the plugin will search for similar domains and redirect you to a working one.
This is the easiest way of circumventing the blockage – just visit http://torrentproxies.com/ and choose any of the proxies listed there.
5. Direct IP
There are two ways to access a website: you either type in your browser’s address bar the usual address, like extratorrent.cc, or the domain’s IP address. But first you have to find out which is it by either looking on the Internet for such a service, or finding it yourself by going to the Command Prompt in Windows and pinging the desired address (example: ping extratorrent.com, and you will see the number between the brackets as the website’s IP address).

To access ET from UK use OPERA browser's built-in free proxy: Settings > Preferences > Webpages > Opera Turbo > ON ... works for all blocked sites, kat and TPB too! should work on ET 2
over at KAT, the Stealthy add on for chrome and firefox is very popular, not only allowing access to the most recently banned sites, but also allowing you to sign into your account which a lot of "solutions" don't seem to allow.

Been messing around with proxies lately and some 'what is my IP' type sites still nail me even through Highly Anonymous Proxies - they give the proxy IP and then my real IP

Also I am plagued with "proxy refusing connections' and 'connection timed out'!
Thanks for the Opera info. Just installed and activated Turbo. This places me in France or Switzerland. Although there is something directly about setting a proxy in settings / preferences / network / proxy.
Hi ive tried opera turbo button turn it on then off but everytime i tried a site its says its blocked piratebay etc
Just tried stealthy add on for firefox, thanks for the info @5
a very simple solution using firefox go to addons and install anonymox and external ip,
Anonymox gives free proxies from various countries that work and right clicking and refreshing your external ip will give you piece of mind that it is working,I am using one in the netherlands at present and have access to all banned sites NP.Tried the stealthy add on but it wanted to push free trial at me and login so binned it.If using anonymox and wishing to change servers then simple right click, change it and refresh external IP if the proxy is working the IP will change, nice and easy .There is a 500mb download allowance for the free version but torrent files are small lol.

Stealthy Add on ,is best for me so far. http://www.stealthy.co/firefox/

Why do some say vpns work and others don't; and read somewhere that the providers if they raise their game they can read what you download; from getting into your router/modem and the vpn can t stop that.
Seems like the only hope is using a seed box but wondering works happens when the MPAA/RIAA etc gets or tries to get court orders to block torrent sites from the source; hope the hackers can get us users a workaround for that upcoming threat ?
@17 VPN`s are only as good as the laws of the country they are in and if they are in bed with America then they are a costly waste of time.If people use the settings that come with their router/hub and not change ssid/password and port forward then they have themselves to blame if their ISP monitors them or anyone else, I have a home hub but only use it as a modem and have a separate secure router fully port forwarded, with different ip and changed password and ssid plugged into it as well as spoofing my identity with an anonymous proxy application and an encrypted Hard drive not that I am paranoid (much) lol.As for when they close torrent sites completely people will no doubt use I2P or some other protocol to access a torrent board with links.@7 skreamer if you time out or connection is refused or your ip is read then the proxy is obviously not secure which is why i use the method @ 10 since when changing your ip via proxy you need to check to see its working and not just assume it does which is why I also install external IP into my browser and check its changed before going to a site.
opera turbo orks for me thanks for the info.
