Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission has decided to take a closer look at allegations that the South Korean tech giant hired students to attack rival HTC’s smartphones in the web. In case the outfit rules against Samsung, the company may face penalties of up to $835,000. According to local press, the company allegedly paid students for writing online negative reviews about HTC and recommending Samsung handsets instead.
The tech giant confessed to the online attack in the style of a British Rail apology. Samsung has published a note on its Facebook page to apologize for “any inconvenience”. The company says it has halted all online marketing like posting articles on the Internet. By the way, this is not the first time Samsung is caught doing this sort of thing. For example, a couple months ago, the company was fined more than $10,000 for an advert featuring some “misleading” data about the Samsung Galaxy Y Duos GT-S6012. At the time, Samsung was stating in numerous Internet and catalog adverts that its smartphone had an automatic focus and flash functions when it actually did not. In another case, Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology was also fined for fixing the prices of optical disk drives.
The industry experts can’t understand why the tech giant feels the need to be so aggressive – it already has more than 30% chunk of the global smartphone market but for some reason strives for more, regardless of the image it creates. At the same time, HTC accounts for 4.6% and while it had rave reviews for its HTC One, the Asian company has struggled over the past year. In other words, Samsung’s antics would appear to be kicking its rival when HTC is down and not actually getting much benefit.

That will certainly teach Samsung a lesson... they only make a measly 25bil PROFIT per year, the companies net worth is only "200 BILLION", 800K will put them out of business ^^
These big companies should be fined a % of their worth, even a fine in the billions would be laughable...800k? lol
|Let's not forget--Samsung was also involved in price fixing LED/LCD technologies a few years ago along with 2 other well known screen manufacturers. I like Samsung products GENERALLY but there's some evil happening over there.|
|crApple has been doing this since the late90's no news there, moving on...|
