Dotcom’s Mega service has finally hired its new Chief Financial Officer. The portal was known to be looking for one within the past couple of months. The position is taken by Genesis Research alumni Stephen Hall.
Mega CEO Vikram Kumar admitted that the company received a large number of high quality applications for the advertised position and chose Stephen as the best candidate. Hall is expected to offer both financial and broad general management skills to the company, while his expertise and experience would be invaluable in rapidly building the portal as a globally significant online business.
It is known that Stephen Hall previously worked at Genesis Research and Development Corporation Ltd., but now that company seems to have some serious financial trouble. In the meantime, Hall is happy to be now working with a high growth New Zealand company.
Aside from hiring a new Chief Financial Officer, Vikram Kumar also announced that Mega had been in talks with smart TV manufacturers and he was hoping to send them the SDK for Mega, which would allow them to incorporate the backup service in the next-generation of smart TVs. Finally, the API is also going to help with app development. Kim Dotcom hopes that 3rd party developers can take advantage of Mega’s feature set, including its encryption, in order to provide a better service for subscribers. He believes that soon the world will see a rich open ecosystem of apps based on top of Mega.
Of course, the company also keeps working on increasing the availability of its main service. Mega basically allows people to backup from somewhere other than the main website, including such extra options as email, social networking and Google talk storage.
