While most countries across the globe are still struggling to get 4G widely available, Samsung announced that it made a major breakthrough at the core of 5G – the next generation of mobile communications.
Samsung recently wrote in its blog that the company has built the innovative adaptive array transceiver which can work in the millimeter-wave Ka bands for mobile communications. This is a breakthrough which would eventually result in data transmission several hundred times faster than 4G networks.
This technology is many years off before becoming available, but 5G is claimed to let subscribers enjoy data transmission speeds of tens of Gbps per base station. In other words, on an unclogged network it will allow ultra speedy wireless downloads.
In the meanwhile, a large range of frequencies are required to run a 5G cellular network, and the tech community is thus far quite skeptical about using millimeter-wave bands for long distances. However, Samsung says that its latest breakthrough has proved successful, as the transceiver managed to transmit data through the millimeter-wave band at a speed of 1 Gbps over 2 kilometers. Samsung assures that its adaptive array transceiver can help get around radio propagation losses at the millimeter wave bands.
The company is sure that it will be able to commercialize the adaptive array transceiver and other 5G technologies by 2020. This schedule is in line with that of the European Union, as its investment targets are also set at delivering usable 5G technology by 2020. At the moment, much of the world still lives with 3G networks, even in countries where 4G is already available.

Amazing technology SAMSUNG ROCKS.@1 sure APPLE will be jealous.

Unless everyone goes to unlimited data whats the point? At 5G speeds you will be over your data limit in under 10 mins. Is 4G even really working at true 4G speeds? I have a Nexus 4 which does not technically have 4G but has HPSA 42+ which is 3G. But I get the same speeds as my friends 4G phones. Sometimes my phone is even faster than AT&T 4G. I use straight talk with T-Mobile. Not everyone has HPSA 42+ in there area I was lucky.
I actually have unlimited data plan, but i wouldnt use much as it will fill the phones capacity quick. Its fun to go out and download a movie fast though on 3g.(ogger correct on HPSA).Im fortunate that i can tether my mobile too when the case arises-great article.

but yes, they reckon upto 1gps,lol nuts, if they did that u would see teh introduction of standard 128gb phones and lower pireced sd of the same!
ant tech great gunna be like judge dredd soon.
Ye englands not long started wastein millions on putting 4g in the major cities

@ SILVERDUST Yea its nice to be able to tether. I use tether a lot with my tablet when not at home and once with laptop when home service was down for 2 days. Defiantly comes in handy. My plan is $45 unlimited data for WEB browsing. I don't know how much I could get away with actual downloading. I have never gone over 3GB.
just because you have a connection of 5gbps doesn't mean you will be using the entire bandwidth.
most of the time it will either be used for very short time periods, or lower connection rates anyway.
in india 2g network is worst so....till 5g comes here i will be no longer available to use it...hehehe
any way samsung always rocks.....

Not only this news are way old... get your facts right, please.
"Researchers have played down claims by Samsung to have developed "5G" mobile systems able to transmit data hundreds of times faster than 4G networks, pointing out that its tests only apply to one element of the system needed to implement a standard".

Hmm... 5G and we still have poverty and food scarcity in this world.
Yes, Waughaus, but we'll be able to learn about that poverty and starvation much quicker.

all those unlimited wireless connection on cell service all have throttle caps, usually within the 10 gig range, once your data is over 10 gigs they throttle your speed to 128k - 256 k or roughly 1x connection speeds.. while they never lied about being unlimited for downloading,, it just not unlimited downloading at 3 or 4g speeds.. as fair use comes into play and your speed is throttled back.. also they use a alot of 7layer detection.. once the cap is reached or even before trying to do a torrent is pretty hard to do.. as they throttle those to ~40 k off the top..

india on 5g? really? the hwole country would have to chip in for a months subs if thats the case itel be soooo dear
@16 a bit random, and do I detect a slight hint of jealousy
Re 5G what they mean is upto 5G which in provider terms actually means 3G maxed, by the time they sort 5G out phones will hold One Terabyte of data, they will allow 5GB download and 20GB upload, you see phones work the other way to PC's because you upload more than you download.

how much faster than 3g ?
thanks for the read......IMO I would think by 2020 not only the speeds but the data capacity will be unbelievable compared to now, a phone that weighs 3 grams and downloads at 20Mps with 20 GiG harddrive and is the size of a pack of cigs.......truly amazing the age we are living in.....thanks again keep up the great articles ;>
