It was quite a surprise for everyone when Google increased the size of its free cloud based storage offerings from 5 to 15GB. This 3-fold leap will be shared across Google+, Drive, and Gmail. The offer is said to roll out in a few weeks. In addition, the representatives of the company promised that organizations using Google Apps will see their storage increase across Google Drive, Google+, and Gmail from 25 to 30GB.
This offer makes Google services the most generous storage capacity of any member of the free online storage market. The company’s nearest rival, Dropbox, at the moment starts free subscribers at 2GB. In the meanwhile, Microsoft SkyDrive offers 7GB, while Apple iCloud, Amazon Cloud Storage, and SugarSync offer 5GB for free each.
Now Google’s move made some industry experts scratch their heads. The matter is that Google really has lots of space which is not doing much at the moment, but the main reason why companies don’t want to offer enormous amounts of free space is because it spoils their own cloud based business offerings. The search giant provided no comments over its logic in increasing the offerings.
Some of the experts believe that Google is going to introduce some new consumer products, including multi-media, because those require more storage. Other observers claim that it seems to be just another way to give Dropbox a good kicking. Indeed, Dropbox can find it very difficult to compete with Google because the former will have to offer something that large for free, and it won’t be so easy. If this is true, then Google is using its power to press a rival, even if it’s just eating its bottom line a little. Anyway, this move makes Gmail, Google+, and Google Drive better for the customers.

|@ifkuup: Copy is not stable. Website frequently freezes and Copy agent (windows version) crashes multiple times per day.|
Should be good in a few more months. They have a feature to backup USB flash keys, which is really nice after a 16GB USB key with 5+ years of data dies.
