It was last October when the Amsterdam Court ordered three former operators of the Pirate Bay to delete torrents related to copyright infringement from the website and to block access to it to Dutch users as well. The three of the site’s founders were supposed to comply with the demands of the Court before this week, but actually nothing has changed on the website. It doesn’t also seem like the Dutch would ever be cut off the site.
Hoping to disarm BitTorrent’s leader The Pirate Bay, BREIN (trade association, which represents the Dutch movie studios and recording industry) took three website operators to court last summer. It won the case and three defendants were ordered to shut Dutch users out from accessing the Pirate Bay. A decision was appealed in October without effect.
The Court ruled in its verdict that Peter, Gottfrid and Fredrik were to delete a list of torrents linking to copyrighted files from The Pirate Bay website. The site itself and the three defendants were not returned guilty of copyright infringement, but the Court supposed the Pirate Bay was assisting in copyright infringement because it didn’t only allow, but also encouraged its users to share torrents.
The deadline was given by the Court to the defendants was March 1. By this date they had to delete a list of torrents related to infringing materials and to cut Dutch users off from accessing those particular parts of the website where torrent links to copyrighted works could be downloaded. This ultimatum included penalties to be paid in case of not complying. The Pirate Bay trio would have to pay tree thousand euros each every day!
So deadline has passed on the 1st of March and thus far we can’t see any changes made to the Pirate Bay website. Dutch users are still able to access all its parts and it seems like all torrent files are still available, including all those from the list of “to be removed”. That’s not a big surprise for three defendants as they claimed from the very beginning that they don’t have any control over the website anymore and can’t comply with the order of the Court even if they wanted to. One of the defendants in this case, ex-Pirate Bay spokesman Peter Sunde, doubted that there would be any change. That would be a huge setback for BREIN that celebrated the winning of the case as a great victory.
Meantime, the Pirate Bay is still the most popular BitTorrent site in the country and listed in the top fifty of most visited.

extra torrnet is so much better then tpb
Yes Its curious, I ocassionaly look for stuff on pirate bay but its no big daddy anymore. The legal aspects seem to be we have been fined yes and we have been warned yes, but we now have no ownership of Pirate bay, no passwords no entry key and don't know who has, and cant guarantee they will help if we did. So its the old bystander ploy and BRIEN have won a hollow victory, and it seems will have to do it all again with a different judge and a doubtful outcome. A win for the people temporarily anyway. Three Cheers then.
I used ThePirateBay when I got off newsgroups. Found out about torrents and it was all over from there. I loved TPB back in the day and it still has it uses today. I can still download Games from there faster than any other public site that I know of. Long Live ~ThePirateBay~ ! Thanks for the article sam.

It is a huge community, but you never know what you gonna get, like virus, adware crap
I kinda like a bit smaller community, better, more reliable downloads, like ET..oh ya
I will say long live Pirate Bay though, as I have used it.
extratorrent has much better visual appeal and site organization, but TPB has a lot of users who offer deeper commentary especially under the software applications section, they say more than "thanks" or "great" or "thank you", which is fine but we need to pick it up as a whole
No guys I am not agree with u bcoz TPB is first p2p website where you can get indian movies for the very first time TPB is the Best :)
It is so wrong for the united state to set this kind of censorship on all of us.I have use tpb on occation to download cause i need it right away and it's easier to find.write to congreess and stop this censorship cause they will want more and more control in our live that what this is.
