Obama’s office keeps defending moves by the NSA to monitor people’s phone calls, while such IT giants as Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and Google claimed that government spooks have never had direct access to their servers.
The claims were made in the press that American National Security Agency and the FBI were tapping directly into the central servers of the major US online companies via secret software called PRISM. Tons of data, including audio, video, pictures, emails, documents and connection logs were stored by the Men In Black.
In response, Google claimed that the company had never provided any such access to user information. Microsoft also said that it hadn’t voluntarily participated in any government information collection and “only complied with orders for requests about specific accounts or identifiers”. Finally, Apple shocked the public by providing a quote on this question – according to spokesperson Steve Dowling, Apple had never heard of PRISM and never provided any government agency with direct access to its servers. In the meanwhile, the media reports said that Apple held out for over 5 years after PRISM enlisted its first corporate partner for "unknown reasons". As for Facebook and Yahoo, they claimed that they have never given the authorities direct access to their servers unless they had a court order.
Industry observers point out that there are a lot of good reasons for the public to be concerned. If PRISM is working the way the media claims, all information that passes via the United States has been sniffed and stored by spooks. In other words, any corporate secrets, any personal information, which had the misfortune to cross American state lines can be read by the country’s intelligence agencies.
The experts also point out that the online giants were quite specific when saying that they didn’t share the information directly to the NSA or FBI, which doesn’t rule out an indirect approach that can be just as effective, but allow the outfits deniability.
In the meanwhile, NSA regarded the identities of its private partners as PRISM's most sensitive secret. Perhaps, the agency was afraid that the companies would withdraw from the program if they were exposed. Still, the outfit admitted that 98% of PRISM production was based on Yahoo, Google and Microsoft.

It is all in the wording with Spooks and Corporations, when they say that the authorities never had direct access to servers there may be some vestige of truth, but it does not mean that the data from the server is not passed over to authorities it just means that direct access to the servers is not there, meanwhile your data and everyone else's is analysed dissected and inspected you are profiled and categorised, the data is then held in government repositories such as the one in Colorado or any of a number of others until such time as it may be used to the ends of the powers that be.Corporations such as Microsoft own their product and your licence is just to use it so what you do with it is their concern as is Apples who say in their TOS that they may pass on your data without legal warrant if your data contains anything they see as unlawful or not to their liking including your personal encrypted messages etc,for many years My Space ,Bebo and others were used as CIA templates for social media and now with Facebook they have half the world posting their info freely for the use of the Man should they wish too and with A USA such as the one today where any citizen can be whisked off to Guantanamo Bay without charge, trial or Lawyer at the whim of the CIA or NSA who are going to say no when they ask for users data.
As part of the NSA/CIA Global Cyber Strategy from 2001-2011 it does state that they will with their foreign and domestic partnerships across all walks of life seek to take control of the Internet,as part of this Social Networking, leasing UK MOD satellites and allies within both law enforcement, media and Tele communication across the globe have for the last 12 years been established and the roots are deep, they have used many tactics from false flag terrorist exploits to covert monitoring, all the way up to copyright infringement and things like the Trans Pacific Partnership B/S to achieve their goals getting other governments as neurotic and Paranoid as their own to achieve domination through fear, intimidation and the full bag of tricks in compliance, whilst the people of America get one picture they are fed half truths and misdirection as only the Department of dirty tricks is capable of,got to love the NSA. : )
any way you word it, they have direct access, those companies may not be aware of how they are doing it but the truth remains that the access is there and they are doing it.
Them yanks, ya gotta love `em, how they keep a straight face when they deny the latest story, or why they even bother, they know and we know, they`re gonna do whatever they want, legal or illegal. "As for Facebook and Yahoo, they claimed that they have never given the authorities direct access to their servers unless they had a court order", Why not? they do for any scumbag marketing co. that throws some cash at them
