In an update, Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, now tries to help suicidal users change their mind about taking their own lives. Indeed, since the last update, Apple’s digital personal assistant detects suicidal statements, including “I want to jump off a bridge” or “I want to kill myself”, and goes further by offering the user to chat with someone from the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Before, Siri could merely search the web for the meaning of the phrases. Moreover, in some cases it could look for the nearest bridge (fortunately, it used Apple Maps to do so, which means it probably couldn’t find any).
As for the developers, they are not saying anything about the changes, but it was clear that Apple was cooperating with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline a few months ago. The outfit’s director, John Draper, told ABC News that the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline was happy to lend a hand. Draper admitted that the outfit helped come up with keywords that could better identify a person with suicidal tendencies. It might be surprising for many, but there are quite a number of people who share very intimate things with Siri or computers. Indeed, people who are very isolated tend to converse with Siri.

|well if i was using apple maps to find a bridge then i want to jump off the damn thing if i could find it to prove apple maps work and i found that damn bridge at last used it once to find london bridge it gave me arizona not in london where that stupid yank thought he brought tower bridge|
yes i know its in arizona but if you are in london why give you that map in first place
even google can work out you are in a particular country and give you map suggestions in that country
|Honestly, if you're that isolated that you feel you have to converse with Siri then maybe it IS time to end it all. Then again, if you're that isolated then finding a bridge could be a challenge. Maybe Siri should come with a euthanasia subroutine?||
