The industry observers suggest that the reason the tablet market is suffering at the moment is because people are waiting for a new tablet from Apple. Rather than just saying that the global tablet sales slowed within the second quarter of 2013, the researchers claimed that the whole tablet market should reignite with the expected release of a new iPad model later in 2013.
As a result, it may seem that the whole of the tablet market was dependant on Apple, although there are trillions of other tablets out there. The observers admitted that a new iPad launch always piques consumer interest in that market area and traditionally that has helped both Apple and its rivals. A constant slowdown in tablet sales was predicted, considering that Apple didn’t release a new version of the iPad early in 2013 like it had in the past. The statistics clearly show that, while Apple is the single biggest manufacture of iPads, its control of the market has collapsed.
The statistics say that Apple shipped almost 15 million tablets in the 2nd quarter of this year, which is a 14% drop from the 17 million tablets the company sold in the same period last year. In the meantime, Android tablet shipments rocketed from 10 million last year to 28 million this year (an increase of 163%).
The situation on the market reversed: if Apple accounted for 60% market share last year, while Android held 38%, today Android has a 62% market share, while Apple holds a 32%.
Overall, tablet shipments in the 2nd quarter of 2013 declined almost 10% from the prior quarter. The researchers suggest that users’ expectations for Apple to introduce a new tablet don’t actually work. The statistics say that tablet shipments increased almost 60% to reach 45 million units if compared with the same quarter in 2012. This is when Apple didn’t release a device and therefore couldn’t grab much interest. The suggestions are that the tech giant directing market interest is a little tricky when it didn’t release a new tablet within a period of 60% growth.
In the same time, sales of tablets produced by Apple rivals (Samsung, Asus, Lenovo, Acer) have increased. Even Microsoft fueled gadgets were starting to make progress into the market: almost 2 million Windows powered tablets were shipped in the 2nd quarter, which is 5 time more that the same period in 2012.

no ppl are not waiting for a new gaypot
People are not waiting for any SHITpple products. It's just that when you have Phone+Tablets=Phablets then who needs a real tablet?
i agree i for one am not waiting on any flopple products. tablets kinda suck period.
Why people waiting for ipad .Its available in the womens health care section of your grocery shop!
No chance then that the 'Industry observers' would otherwise be known as Apple marketing?
I think people are realizing tablets are sort of pointless.. They don't act as a phone, and can't do the same as a laptop or netbook, so they are sort of worthless

tablets are pointless in every way and cant stand apple what so ever people are just sheep pure in simple Baaaa lol
I just bought my wife a touch-screen laptop. It does everything she'll ever need. It has a DVD player and a REAL keyboard! No virtual keyboard BS. It can create Word, Powerpoint, Excel files, PDFs, etc. It can run any software available. It has a beautiful 16" screen and 1TB of hard drive space for $700. Why the hell would I spend $1000 for a Surface Pro to be able to run the same software on a tiny-ass screen with a shitty keyboard and virtually no storage space?
Keep your tablets; tablets are for knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing imbeciles. That is the market-segment Apple caters to (which is ,sadly to say, more and more people every day thanks to the rapid degradation of our education system).

if there are a lot of people out there like me the sales will dwindle further.
I have a samsung Tablet used to read my mails and do a few things on it while on the road. stoped using it is now a expensive paperweight my phone does it all and is much easier to carry with you.
Kids have $70 Kindle readers this is the most used for them they like the feel and they like reading find the rest of the tablets stupid prefer their touchscreen laptops much better for school and all the other stuff they are doing and just as light as the tablet with all the accesories. their ipads are retired as paperweights replacxed by smartphones.
My wife her tablet i also a expensive paperweight as she found it is not as efficient as a laptop more waste so will we be out there shoping for more tablets?
I DON'T THINK SO!

I like my tab, a lot! No it's not for running Photoshop, but for email, web surfing and games it's perfect! It's got a screen big enough to see, buttons big enough to touch, and pretty much everything is free. I like free!
I'm not some wanna be poser, (hmm? I don't think I'm a wanna be poser. Not sure what a poser is to be honest, but it doesn't sound like something I would wanna be.) but I have logged hundreds of hours on my Nexus 7 in the last year, not bad for $200(I like cheep too!) including all the free software you want.

I have a transformer prime and it works like a charm considering the work I do. I own a PC, Mac, also a galaxy S2. My tablet out does my phone in plenty of ways when it comes down to apps on a 10inch screen. Tablets are not obsolete, just depends on your reason for purchasing in the first place. In combination with my camera equipment, nothing beats my prime. As for apple.... Unless they find some revolutionary niche, Im not biting.
