China Will Have Problems with Windows XP Next Year

Actually, it will happen to everyone who stays with the OS after final update. While Microsoft is going to pull the life-support plug on XP, China seems to be not happy with this decision, as it doesn’t know what to do.

windowsxptop.jpg

Everyone has only 8 months before Windows XP gets its very last security update. So, in that time China has to decide what to do with its millions of XP installs. The statistics say that over 37% of all personal computers in the world run Windows XP at the moment, which means that there are around 570 million machines with the OS whose support will be dropped by Microsoft in May 2014.

The matter is that a number of countries might suffer more than others. For example, only 16% of American computers currently run the aged software, while in China more than 72% of the country’s PCs rely on Windows XP and will have to somehow deal with any exploits that come along. Although the country has been slowly shedding its dependence on the above mentioned OS, if it keeps its current pace, XP will still be on approximately 65% of all its machines.

blade70 avatarSadly, for many there's really no option, because they're running XP on old hardware and can't afford to buy something else. Entire third world companies are still using Office 2003 and XP on Pentium class machines with bare specifications. Of course, that hardware may be able run some Linux distro, but probably not their custom made macros, point of sale software, databases, etc.

Dylyndog avatarAll good things eventually come to an end. Who really thought that Microsoft would keep supporting an OS that no one buys anymore? With Win 7, and 8 on the market it would be idiotic for Microsoft to keep providing resources on a washed up OS. Its the old and busted.. 7, and 8 are the new hype. From their prospective. RIP XP you will be missed.

On the other topic. @9 and 10 I couldn't agree with you more, however, me being an American and wanting to defend my country I'll say this.... our government is a joke, but our people are hardworking individuals who are just trying to get by. (Most of us anyways) We are one of the youngest countries on the planet, yet we have manages to become superior to many countries who have been around since the damn of time. We do not like being messed with and were dragged into two World Wars. The American people funded through taxes the rebuilding of Europe after World War II. Germany had taken over everything and what they didn't was left in ruins. So do not be too hateful towards us Americans we funded through the taxes we pay almost every county on this planet for something or another. Sometimes that funding made a difference and sometimes it didn't, and we have made mistakes sure, but again, we are a young country

burger337 avatarthis is not good..i run a small business in London and i use 2 computers on Xp which have run faultless for nearly 4 years..this means that i will have to pay £140 ($1500) to upgrade my Sage software and another £150 ($1350) to upgrade my InspHire software for each machine, thats without the cost of actually buying new machines, around £250 each ($4000) plus all the customer and suppliers files and other little operating software files i have on each machine, then there's the time it would take to download and copy all of those files hoping it all works first time...it is going to be an expensive time consuming frustrating nightmare....the conspiracy theorist in me hopes that their last update doesn't include a programme to 'speed up' the decline of the XP os..

Amithlon avatarRIP XP, we still use it on stand alone machines for testing medical equipment, but 7 would be fine 2, dropped xp myself years ago, never used vista, won't be using 8, maybe 9 though. In Australia ... the brits got us started, all 75% convicts for stealing a handkerchief, a loaf of bread or worse... and 25% warped constabularys, love our country, hate our government - a lot like the US, we watched while Obama had done to you what out incompetent bureaucrats have done to us, massive pay rises while denying the worker any. What is the communist party doing ? (can you believe our prime minister makes more than obama !!) worse still they want us to vote some of the pack of mongrels in very soon, god help all of us, brit, US, Aussie i think the common man has been screwed completely in all 3.

jonboyuk avatarXP is good for operating barriers on car parks, some basic tills and touch screen help displays at the tourist information. The only good xp system around is a hacked one with extras that Microshit never offered. And I am British and no one has been worse than us in the past. Our country is built on theft and partition of other countries, but hey... All governments are thieves and liars when they can get away with it. Whats new....

No avatar@17, re: USA. "We do not like being messed with and were dragged into two World Wars."

Old chap, those two world wars would never have happened in the first place if the US colonies hadn't decided to cede from the British Empire because, "wahhhh, taxes!". Keiser Wilhelm would never have kicked off against a British Empire that still had the resources of the US at its beck and call. So, in a sense, US independence caused WW1 (and therefore WW2). Which caused the French Revolution the rise of Napoleon, the colonisation of Indochina and, eventually, the Vietnam War. And the fall of Czarist Russia and the rise of Communism. Which led to the Cold War, the rise of Red China and the Korean War. Which... oh, you get the idea.

Dylyndog avatar@24 How did the the independence of the US in 1776 cause a World War in 1914? That's 138 years difference. WW I was kicked off by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria by some nationalist from Sarajevo. And WW II began and ended with Hitler. So I do not know how you can think that WW I was caused by American independence 138 years after the fact.

Embolism avatarwell here`s my two penneth worth,China is developing it`s own Linux and Chinese friendly Operating systems so where the statistics come from that it will be reliant on Microsofts XP comes from is anyones guess.XP was and is (despite many, many updates)one of the most hacked operating systems ever and despite all the updating with Win 7 and 8 and future systems in the pipeline this will never change since Microsoft release over priced and insecure systems for the US governments benefit and their own ends at an exorbitant price. The only good thing with XP was the game playing and this is being addressed by more game makers adopting a .sh for Linux integration as well as windows from Unreal tournament 2004 onwards. When all is said and done I have Linux dual booted with XP for the games that do not have a .sh in the program for everything else Linux is far better (spyware , malware and virus free).Where politics come into the article is beyond me but it must be said the world economic downfall has and is a result of ongoing stupidity and xenophobia of the American government allied with the UK in a futile aggressive stance against those countries that neither have any part of or right to interfere in (some people here need a history lesson for sure).
