Tourist hotspots in Queensland Australian will display a Smarter Smartphone Code of Conduct in attempts to win “smartphone dependency”.
Local media reports mention the results of the survey commissioned by the local tourism body. The survey discovered that almost 50% of Australians had argued with their partner over mobile phone use. This turned out to be true - commissioned by Tourism and Events Queensland, the research revealed that half of the citizens think they couldn’t survive 24 hours without their smartphone. 65% of them keep their device within arm’s reach all day long on a daily basis.
80% of the surveyed complained they had had a conversation with a person who was texting at the same time. The local authorities said that the smartphone code of conduct will be displayed on coasters, in taxis and on bedside tables in hotels across the coast. Thus, Queensland has become the first Australian state to introduce a code of conduct in its tourism industry.

@1 What in the hell are you talking about? There is no code of conduct here in the USA.

A. They'll be too busy on their phones to read it. Send it via text like they do for bushfire/emergency warnings etc.
B. Who cares, sooner or later they'll be so busy on it they'll step under a bus anyway. Gods way of culling

lol I call BS. Is this about the Tourists or the citizens. Was the study range 10 people lol. I live in QLD and this is the first I've heard of it. Not to say it isn't going to happen but wow stickers, coasters Cmon. Slow news day. The last thing a Tourism business needs is to correct a customer on mobile phone usage and lose them as a customer.
they are not a necessity, just something for convenience.
what i hate are the idiots that think they can walk and text at the same time... like in the mall...
they can't. they just block everyone.
i saw an idiot driving a motorcycle the other day texting, of course he was making a mess of traffic since he was not paying attention and not keeping up his speed (or staying in lane)
i refuse to use a smart phone, i have internet at home for a desktop, wifi for my laptop and tablet. there is no need to have a smart phone if you have that... unless you like to waste money.
all you are doing is giving money to the phone company.

@ 5, I agree with you 100%... once in a while whenever I see someone text-walking I'll deliberately walk right into them before they happen to walk right into me.
As for folks texting while driving: A drivers license is a license to DRIVE, not yack nor text on that dang phone. Here in the U.S. we have too many fatal car accidents because some idiot was texting or yacking while driving.
Next is folks who yack loudly on their phone during bus/train commutes... my advice to them: SHYADAP! I for one Don't wanna hear other people's personal crap while commuting to/from work.
Then there's the folks who text during a dinner-date... it's rude that a person should text while dining out, especially if that person is your spouse or lover or friend whom you invited out to dinner at a restaurant... that dinner date isn't just an intimate time Together as a couple or group, it also expensive when the food is getting cold while Dweebiss is busy texting on his/her phone.
Then there's the loud phone yacker in a crowded elevator... God, I wish I had a secret button to activate a trap-door beneath where that yacker is standing!
Remember when those walkie-talkie bleeper phones first came out? Those things are a PITA!
So, yeah, call me 'old-fashioned'... but we sure could use such a thing as phone conduct here in the U.S.
