The press has recently run a chilling story about the NSA hacking into the Google and Yahoo datacentres. According to the NSA papers, seen by the reporters, the National Security Agency carried out “full take”, “bulk access” and “high volume” operations on both Yahoo and Google networks.
Such large-scale harvesting of online data would be illegal in the US, but it looks like the operations took place overseas, where the spooks were allowed to presume that anyone using a foreign data link is a foreigner.
An ex-NSA chief analyst admitted that the agency has platoons of lawyers, whose task is to figure out how to stay within the law while maximizing data collection by exploiting every loophole.
The search giants maintain fortresslike data centers across 4 continents, connected with thousands of miles of fiber-optic cable. For instance, Yahoo’s internal network is transmitting entire e-mail archives from one data center to another, which is when the agency could pounce.
Security experts point out that tapping the Google and Yahoo clouds would allow the National Security Agency to intercept communications and view the content at its leisure. NSA agents had to circumvent gold-standard security to get the information. In the meantime, the weak point might have been some of the premium data links that Google and Yahoo have been buying or leasing.
According to the insiders, they had reason to believe that their private, internal networks were safe from prying eyes, but apparently not.

Yes, this will not stop anytime soon! And just this week, YouTube imposed their link YouTube and Google accounts requirement. (If you want to vote or comment on the videos). I believe all this linking crap only makes it easier for hacks to intrude on your privacy!

Spying with a black shadow Sphinx at NSA, Search Engines and PC users? dude that's scary! you know is a F mess. That's what is going to be difficult to the nsa dudes.
If you believe Google and Yahoo were not aware of this - after the past revelations of allowing pin traps inside their internal networks - then, you deserve to be spied on. This is just a way for those companies caught by the truth of collaborating with the NSA to distance themselves - and keep their profits going - and to spread misinformation that they are innocent. If those companies actually thought that collaborating would keep themselves safe, then they were blind to the whole idea from the beginning and fooled themselves. Now they are spied on and cry foul ...where were the cries of indignation when this started ? before the pen traps and backroom deals...f*ck Google and Yahoo and all the rest of the Big Companies who gave us (the public) up to the criminals - and by their actions become criminals themselves.
I only have one question. People thought Tor was safe, then it comes out it has been hacked, just much slower. I pay for VPN services. Just how safe am I from the prying eyes of the NSA, ISP, etc, or have I just slowed the process down. I might be safe traveling from a to b, but once I've been to b's server the ip I used to get their is on their logs. Until the vpn server I logged into wipes my record, for some reason I still think I have left a trail. Any techs want to chime in.
