It is obviously nothing good in being fined for sharing an illegal movie torrent, but one of the Swedish pirates somehow found himself fined extra for sharing a copy of poor quality! Swebits’ moderator and uploader was hit with a huge damages award for uploading a single pre-release film. The 28-year-old is required to pay the studio $652,000 – the equivalent amount the latter would have charged for a license to distribute the film for free. Moreover, the pirate also got a suspended jail sentence and 160 hours of community service.
Local anti-piracy group Antipiratbyran claimed that the file-sharer was Sweden’s “worst ever” pirate – this title can be a bit of an insult to a netizen! The prosecution demanded at least 12 months in jail. The damage award was inflated by the fact that the pirate uploaded a poor quality copy of the movie, which the moviemakers claimed lowered the standard of the brand.
In the meantime, the Pirate Party was outraged by the court decision, because it exceeded the $150,000 per title statutory damages possible in the US, where courts roll over to entertainment industry and give silly infringement penalties. Industry observers admit that it was wrong to have such a harsh penalty for doing something millions of Swedes do every day for breakfast. It just demonstrates how outdated Swedish law is and the only way forward remains to introduce a radical reform of copyright legislation which would allow for the sharing of culture.

sad part its a private site
The message the judge is sending is this:
If you pirate movies then you shall do it properly! No cam, webrip, telesync or other crap! All releases that does not match BRRip quality will be punishable by law!
Judge is obviously very tired of all that poor quality and out-of-sync crap out there. We all are!
HAHAHAH! That's funny. I can think of a couple people out there that share low quality re-rip crap. Too bad they can't be punished and fined for it like this guy was.
soon there will be fines for farting for making bad quality air.

@4 I dont think was the judge was quite saying that actually. He certainly was not saying if you pirate movies then you should do it properly. What he was saying was that if you distribute poor quality pirate material, you should expect additional punishment on top of what you would normally receive if the quality was good. Because he was taking into account any damage caused to the image rights of the copy right holder, in addition to the sentence for the breach of the copy right. There is a big difference between the two.

Swedish systems is so corrupted.
|I think if the cam was bad but the story line was good he should have counter claimed against the film company that he put the film out as a teaser, so that downloaders would wanting to see the real deal go to the cinema and pay for the privilege thereby making not losing money for the studio.||
