Patrick O’Donovan, a politician from Limerick, called for crackdown on open source browsers that allowed anonymous browsing. Deputy O’Donovan asked the Oireachtas Communications Committee to investigate tougher controls on the use of open source browsers that allow people to remain anonymous in the unauthorized trade of drugs, weapons and porn.
The politician claimed there was a black market on the Internet that protects anonymity and operates across borders through open source browsers and payments systems, both of which allow users to remain anonymous. Such services encourage operation of online markets for illegal stuff like drugs, weapons and adult content, where it’s very difficult to trace the identity of the buyers.
O’Donovan said that if the Oireachtas Communications Committee doesn’t take him seriously he would go further and raise the matter with both the Ministers for Justice and Communications. He also claimed he wanted to get the European Union on his side. The politician pointed out that the US police have recently taken action to address the problem, but he missed the fact that it was fruitless, because replacement browsers quickly emerged to continue illegal trades. Perhaps, O’Donovan believes that the Irish shouldn’t pay attention to the fact that the Americans with their super surveillance gear failed to get it working, and is sure that enhanced international co-operation and engagement will successfully solve the problem. Well, let’s see.

Obviously the Gentleman has been living under a rock for the last decade or so since the onion router was conceived of and funded by the USA`s navy and others.
there can be no banning of TOR by virtue of the fact it allows freedom of speech and communication within repressive regimes across the world and allows a modicum of anonymity to millions not just for the illegitimate sites but to almost 3 times the sites indexed by Google many of which are legitimate and educational.
He might also wish to educate himself and learn of VPN`s,anonymous profiling and proxies while he is at it none of which need special browsers such as the pirate browser, but that use firefox which is in turn is used by millions of corporations and companies worldwide including IBM.
He might also wish to educate himself with proprietary browsers and the Malware/spyware incorporated therein which is why Microsoft has lost millions in court cases in the past.
Jumping on the B/S band wagon of David Cameron will obviously intimidate and scare the uneducated into accepting some of the proposals of the gentleman in question but if they do seek the truth he would be laughed out by those that are aware of what the W.W.W was created for and which has now been subverted not by the porn pirates etc but by government spying on their own electorate to the detriment of their citizens by foreign powers who they are in collusion with no doubt for yet more bucks than they are salaried for by those they are acting against.

O'Donovans time would be better spent doing what the people of Ireland elected him to do, to get the Country back on its feet again and out of the shit its in, but what the hell do we know, maybe his hair brained idea will sort out all our problems overnight, no more unemployment, no more emigration, no more National Dept and no more Open Surce browsers, sorted, what a twat.
Well said Embolism

@2 you might wish to read and reconsider your statement in regard to inbred irish since around 1/3 of Australians have some Irish in them demographically, although only 10% are true bloodied Irish and as with English navvies they built Australia into what it is today as well as building America to a greater extent.
Whilst we all agree the gentleman in question is a D**k to slur a race in it`s entirety for the stupidity of one man is less than clever.
The Australian Embassy in Dublin states that up to 30 percent of the population claim some degree of Irish ancestry.Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke has said: "... apart from Ireland, Australia is more Irish than any other country. It is true that more people of Irish descent have gone to the United States than to Australia; but, as a proportion of the population, higher in Australia than in the United States.
The Irish influence in Australia permeates the whole of our national make-up.The Immigration Museum, Melbourne also states that over 10 per cent of Australians claim an Irish ancestor, meaning that Australia has proportionately more people of Irish descent than any other place outside Ireland.]
If the rumors are true, and the Irish would rule the World if not for alcohol,
I'll drink to that.
