UK Wants Even More Online Censorship

The UK government seems to be planning to increase censorship of the worldwide web after its initial attempt failed. Instead of simply giving up on the idea of filtering the Internet, David Cameron wants to censor more and not just delete illegal material but also anything that might offend him.

Now James Brokenshire, the Minister for Immigration and Security of the United Kingdom, pushes the idea of increased online filtering, as David Cameron has finally realized his initial attempt failed.Brokenshire has called for the government to do more to deal with "unsavory" content on the Internet. God knows what he means.

Again Brokenshire had to use the excuse of terrorist propaganda as a reason for online filtering. He said that terrorist propaganda on the Internet would have a direct impact on the radicalization of UK citizens and it is therefore very important to remove terrorist-related content hosted in the United Kingdom or overseas.

According to Jaani Riordan, a barrister specializing in technology litigation, the UK government is bringing in censorship, which would breach the European Convention of Human Rights in the terms of freedom of expression. This is why the government prefers to put pressure on private businesses to self-censor. Indeed, the Minister says that the government was considering a kind of a "code of conduct" for ISPs and businesses, along with a potential system whereby search engines and social media platforms actually alter their algorithms to make "unsavory" material appear less often.

Well, so far there was neither clear indication what a new online filter list pushed on ISPs would look like, nor how it will be designed to work. The suggestions were that the government would simply tell the industry what exactly it considers offensive and they will voluntarily have to agree to filter it. In the meantime, the Home Office insists that this suggestion is part of a new effort meant to take down "terrorist" material overseas, where much of it is hosted.

Raptor5 avatarThese people are a joke. There is nothing we cannot bypass. Waste of time and money. Just a minor inconvenience. Feck off Cameron, there is no terrorist threat....you are the only threat to freedom and free speech. Im a father of four and have always set filters as to what my kids can access on line, why punish me? Its becoming like bloody China here. Its my right as human being to be able to choose for myself what I wish to view or watch or listen to, it is not up you or your government or anyone else for that matter what I wish to do online.

mwd25 avatarAnother good one SAM. Article states "The suggestions were that the government would simply tell the industry what exactly it considers offensive and they will voluntarily have to agree to filter it."

They will voluntarily have to agree to filter it??? Or what? What if they dont? Then what will happen? I would really like to know that, because the only thing that would compel someone to do that would most certainly be illegal. So,if you cant force companies to do it,they wont.......the end.

Raptor5 avatarHere in Scotland we have a chance to rid ourselves of these incompetent, ignorant, greedy b*stards forever...However whats the betting that most Scots will
forget their history and vote No. Any Scot who votes no is a traitor to his ancestors and has learned nothing. At the very least anyone considering voting no to
Scottish Independence should read up on why they are voting against a yes vote. The pros outweigh the cons. Scotland land of the Brave...maybe once..but
project FEAR is alive and thriving here so its more like..Scotland Land Of The Sheeple.

Embolism avatarI think its a lost cause as we all are aware anything not out in the public domain and censored can be found on the dark net so let them use all the BS excuses they want to for censorship of the internet and filtering since anyone who has half a mind to do more than Google will still be able to find content they would block.
Such has been proved many times over from repressive regimes in other countries who have tried and failed in the same regard, the fact that the Government of the UK is seeking to impose the same media and internet control that is used in the USA to misinform and keep the people ignorant to the truth is the concern for without transparency the people can have no trust in the Government of any country and by blocking, hiding or subverting information they make themselves as reviled as the repressive regimes they themselves criticize.

Embolism avatarIt is interesting that they are changing from the pedophile excuse for filtering back to the Terrorism threat since the person responsible for the pedophile scaremongering idea has since been arrested for kiddie porn, there will always be some BS bogus threat to empower them to do their sh1te and it is doing nothing for the security of the country since GCHQ has already passed everyone's metadata to the NSA so we in the UK have already had our privacy stripped what else can they do to us in reality.

No avatarIn other news, David Cameron is currently in talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, in regard to acquiring a copy of their great firewall of China, to use in the U.K. against the British peasants. They have arranged a meeting in Beijing, upon Xi's return from France.

Embolism avatar@14 the great firewall of China has never been that great and has been circumvented for years with programs going as far back as Gladder, now with programs like anonymox and private VPN`s there is no chance that the same can be done in the UK with 100% coverage and any real terrorists would simply circumvent such tactics with innocuous ciphers in emails or even with the use of a single shared email address whereby no mails are even sent but both parties can log into the mail box using the same login details and just read a draft cipher which only they can understand.
