AV software maker, Avast, has waded into the software giant for pulling the plug on Windows XP. Avast claimed that abandoning the popular OS was a big mistake, especially as Microsoft hasn’t provided an attractive possibility for people to upgrade.
Avast explained that security products can only do so much to keep XP users safe after the company stops patching the future vulnerabilities of the OS. In addition, abandoning Windows XP won’t only affect XP users, but will also create a huge security problem for the entire ecosystem. You can just imagine tens of millions of computers running XP connected to the Internet – unpatched and without security updates. Of course, all of them will be just waiting to be exploited. The vulnerable operating system will become an easy target for hackers. Besides, it will be regarded as a gateway to infect other non-XP operating systems. Avast also pointed out that many essential devices, including ATMs, are running Windows XP, and all of them will also be left exposed.
Nevertheless, one has to be fair to Microsoft – the company has given all users a very long time to say goodbye to their XP addiction. One would have thought that there would be a market for a security product staying ahead of the hackers – maybe Avast should consider this idea instead of complaining.

Avast, are you still supporting products you sold in 2002 for free? No, F you, whiners! Go complain to Apple about their 4 years of support (or 2 years in a lot of cases as with my ipod touch 3rd gen). In 5 years when the world has tons and tons of iOS devices (way more than XP), the problem will be 10X worse because Apple's security is 10X worse than Microsoft's, and Apple is not willing to backpatch OS versions from 5+ years ago. iOS devices are probably more exposed than a typical NAT'd XP box, which has a built in firewall, that also allows you to install third party firewalls if you wanted.
So all the whining, is mostly due to cheap ass people and unprepared people who blame others for their issues (I'm looking at you, ATM makers).

lol i love the fact that they used ATM maker's as an example. here in Australia if the ATM you use isn't from the bank that your account is from. you get charged $2 - $5 per transaction absolute crooks. cant see why they cant use windows 8...fair enough its crap but its practically free...
i LOVE using Windows XP Pro SP3! Just bought a Vista to XP license downgrade a year or so ago for my desktop PC although i'm using Windows 8 Pro on my laptop.
XP & Win8 is BEST for me.....

@tonymengela ... are you NUTS? MICROSOFT? Giving away a SOURCE CODE? They still keep the source code for windows 3 a secret, and it's been out of use for 21 years.
The ONLY way to get the source code for a Microsoft product is to DE-COMPILE it, which is illegal per MS's Terms Of Service. (not that this has stopped many people, but if you made it PUBLIC they'd be down on you like a ton of bricks!)

As much as I love XP, I still needed Change. So, I installed XPsp3 into an older computer so that I can still play with older software and games; and I installed Win7 in my newer computer to play with newer wares. Cool! Now I have all my peas in a pod! lol
