According to the research carried out by ERA (UK Entertainment Retailers Association), the country’s music sales decreased by a mere 0.8 percent last year, which is definitely the lowest rate within last 5 years, though the economic recession still keep developing.
General Director of ERA Kim Bayley is not sure they can say that this indicates the music market in stabilizing before boosting. Everything is undoubtedly still in the middle of an economic meltdown, but the only thing is sure – consumers definitely love music not less or maybe even more than before. That’s clearly a bright tone in a gray environment.
The members of ERA claim to have over 90% of copyright content like video and music sales in the United Kingdom, as they include Amazon online store, HMV (entertainment retailer), and Tesco supermarket chain.
The report has also estimated the average cost of usual (not digital) release, which is about £7.99, and it’s the first time in the recording history when the price for a new CD album has dipped below £8. However, the price is still relatively high, and there’s a presumption that by reducing the price the industry can boost sales further.
Kim Bayley also notes that surging sales and the great appeal of Lady Gaga and SuBo prove that music is still very appealing for the British customers. Although it’s too early to talk about the end of decline on the music market, the entertainment industry found out last year that music still has got a lot to offer to the public.
This news of music losses slowing down reminds us the recent comments of Mitch Bainwol (Chairman and CEO of Recording Industry Association of America), insisting that the industry is halfway through a curve of recession, and probably makes one wonder if it finally has some truth.

|Thanks for this useful news Sam.|
I like people who help the other without receiving money.
I love the doctors who go into countries where there is war and they do not want money.
