Google’s first diversity report shows the lack of diversity among the company’s workforce. For instance, only 30% of its staff are female. 61% are white people, 30% are Asian staff, 3% – Hispanic people, and only 2% are black.
As you can see, tech companies lack the representation of women and ethnic groups, as opposed to a much more diverse customer base for mainstream technology production. Google admits that it is not where it wants to be in terms of diversity, and that it’s a kind of hard to address these challenges.
Aside from the pronounced lack of women in the company, when narrowed by job type and seniority, the gender split in Google is even more extreme: women hold only 21% of leadership positions and 17% of technology-specific jobs. Google is not alone in this regard: at Amazon, for example, only 18 out of its 120 senior managers are female. In the whole industry, the number of female chief technology officers has remained 14% for the past decade.
The experts explain that many companies recruit men and women 50/50, but lose women within a few years because of company ethos clashes and women understanding that less qualified men are being promoted above them.
However, the search giant explains that recruiting qualified women and ethnic minorities is very difficult today. The problem is that women earn roughly 18% of all computer science degrees in the US. As for black and Hispanic people, they make up less than 10% and 5% of degrees in computer science majors, respectively.
Google has decided to release its first diversity report due to beliefs that an open dialogue about diversity problems can be the only way to solve them. The company reckons that tackling diversity in education is one of the ways. So, Google has donated more than $40 million to organizations aiming to help increase the percentage of female in computer education. In addition, many groups from all over the world have been set up to encourage girls into this kind of education, while the governments are working to remove barriers to them in science.
The observers point out that the problems facing workforce diversity are not insurmountable, but admit that no company can do it alone. Thus, Google’s release of its information is considered a good step forward in addressing the problems as an industry.

The days when a person made his own way in the world and achieved things on their own merits is a bygone time. Everything is blamed on the 'White' man, in America,at least, that is the case.
Handouts of money,food,medical care,housing,etc. are now based upon 'racial ratios' - and which minority can b*tch the loudest. Affirmative action is one the biggest 'legal' crimes in this country - to dictate to a private company the 'who,how many and what color' they must be in order to qualify for tax incentives or other Government perks.
The disease of these 'racial equality' political correctness scheme is overwhelming and spreading through the World. Enough of the guilt tripping and blaming Whites for all the inequities in this world.
Dont fall back on Slavery, the Holocaust, being poor, ugly,fat,short, cross-eyed - or the slap the doctor gave you when you popped out, as an excuse for why you fail in life and cant get your sh*t together and make something of yourself.
Almost all of us will never reach the heights we aspire to -or dream of - , but,damn it, Ill try my best and succeed where and when I can.

Anyway.. the US is always so focused on race issues they just cripple themselves with mediocrity. In Asia we mostly don't gave a crap about racism - if you are capable then you are respectable, if you are not than you are nothing. Black people for examples are often shunned and looked down on in China, but if you are rich and successful or accomplished like a noted surgeon or engineer or athelete - then it doesn't matter anymore, your golden.
|I am black and I don't care about race in the work place. If you are qualified then that is all need be required period no if,and's, or butts about it. My motto is let the best man(person) win. That is one of the biggest problem we have in here in the USA, they let someone who is not quite ready or qualified get the job on some notion that they are helping some ethnic group. I think that is more harmful, why should we be all equals, no race just an American, like in most other countries.|
I agree, Its unfair otherwise and it Radically affects the bussiness dynamics when a unqualified and inexperienced person is in the wrong position. It not only affects the company, it affects the people there as well. Ive seen my fair share of mistreatment due to being a commodity as of recently. its not fair, nor is it right. No one should be treated any differently, regardless of any physical trait, unless its a benefit to the Job(and not by 'Social' Standards). Its a good choice when a physical characteristics lends to a ability to perform a job duty. Like being tall, or Muscular, may effect directly on ability to perform jobs that are suited to those Characteristics. On the other hand, a person shouldnt hold the position of say 'Surgeon General' Just because they fit a minority status. Any one person should benefit a position, not a social standard.

Here's some facts that American whites try to keep hidden: 78% of all Affirmative Action beneficiaries are WHITE WOMEN, and there's more gay & disabled white males that get hired due to Affirmative Action than the entire African-American workforce. Yet, these projective fork-tongued cry babies continually claim Affirmative Action is a black program, when it's actually a program for whites.|
On to the welfare fallacy told by white Americans. There's several different types of welfare, but the American whites focus on the one welfare program where blacks are overrepresented. That program is called AFDC (Aide for Families with Dependant Children), of which 4.9% of American blacks are beneficiaries. That 4.9% is made up entirely of women & children with children making up the vast majority. The real question is: "Why don't American whites ever complain about the other welfare programs that pay out a lot more money"? Because whites are overrepresented within those welfare programs. 88% of the Social Security & Disability beneficiaries are white, and 96% of the Farm Subsidy beneficiaries are white. All of the welfare programs abused by whites pay a lot more than AFDC, but they'll never complain about them because they are the leechers leeching from the programs.
I don't think Google is discriminate toward blacks, American blacks collectively don't give a f--k about computer programming. Therefore, we would more than likely be almost non-existent within the computer companies' workforce.
