The Director of National Intelligence has recently announced that Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor, has thus far shared fewer top secret documents than previously estimated.
One year after the first leaks were received from Edward Snowden and published by the UK and US newspapers, the US intelligence community believes that the former systems administrator disclosed only 200,000 documents to journalists, while he had probably downloaded up to 1.5 million files more. It was previously estimated that Snowden had stolen 1.77 million documents.
Nevertheless, it is still unclear what Edward nicked. In its official announcement, the government of the United States admitted that the overwhelming majority of documents Edward took pertained to the American military capabilities. But others don’t think that Snowden could compromise the communications networks which make up the military’s command and control system. In any case, it is certain that most of the documents – and probably the most interesting ones – are unaccounted for.
Edward Snowden, who still stays somewhere in the country of bears, vodka and balalaika, previously said that he gave all of the classified files he had obtained to journalists in Hong Kong, before flying to Moscow airport and getting stuck there for many weeks. Snowden underlined that he made no copies, but the chances are that he says so to look more innocent than he really is. For example, at some moment in the past he told the South China Morning Post that he had access to more classified data to leak, but in May he changed his mind and said he destroyed all files he was holding to prevent the Russians from getting them. Like they cared.

I think despite the damaging files already released of which most were merely corroborating what Bill Binney and others had already disclosed and proved the NSA and USA of lying to the public and going against the public good by internal as well as external monitoring of citizens electronic data, that Mr Snowden has kept some serious bartering chips as future leverage for when captured or exchanged by the Russians or whichever powers he is hiding now or will be in the future.
It seems quite obvious that not all state secrets have been disclosed but just those pertinent to the illegal and immoral spying on their own and spying related to foreign powers,other files are a safeguard against assassination by the NSA and CIA and possible poker chips for when he eventually gets repatriated for trial..
The China Morning Post thing sounds like a possible translation error. He could have given out more than incriminating data to someone other than journalists, but then he'd have wound up on a tropical island with a new identity and/or dead.
They just want to smear him as a traitor to avoid charges themselves because they are the traitors, levying a cold war on everybody.
As #1 said, he just documented what Binney and other whistleblowers already said. Now there's plenty of evidence to file charges.
Malte Spitz, a member of Germany’s Green party, sued his telecommunications company to give up 35,830 records of his data from 2009-2010.
“Three weeks ago, when the news broke about the National Security Agency’s collection of metadata in the United States, I knew exactly what it meant.
My records revealed the movements of a single individual; now imagine if you had access to millions of similar data sets.
*You could easily draw maps, tracing communication and movement. You could see which individuals, families or groups were communicating with one another. You could identify any social group and determine its major actors,”
he posted all that stuff online somewhere you can believe that...mega upload or somewhere like that.
It really says something about our government management ability when they cant even tell what he took.
ignorance at its best.
@6. Oh yeah....
@3 it is quite feasible he has a private account with mega it is also feasible that he has a private account with a secure encrypted server similar or the same as used with Blackphones as the data is stored electronically he may have several copies on several secure servers or that he has simply left it in the hands of a solicitor or in a foriegn bank vault unknown to the spooks.
When Bill Binney gave up his job at the NSA after almost 40 years because he found them monitoring their own in 2000 they went to his house and threatened to deal with him as a traitor a decision they soon retracted when he in turn threatened them with a class action suite which would blow them out of the water since he after almost 40 years knew more than they ever wanted made known to the public and still does,its always good to have an ace in the hole,Snowden is currently working with others to campaign against spook central and the Americans internet fascism 1984 style and it would seem that he is not keeping his head down and hiding out with a new identity so one has to assume he has an ace in the hole with which to pull a Bill Binney and ultimately an endgame,although with the amount of publicity he has generated and his current activism against the puppet masters it would have to be real sensitive data to get him a get out of Jail card.
