The National Security Agency can supposedly exploit the security features in Apple’s iPhone that allows the agency to spy on people when they think the device is completely switched off. According to Edward Snowden, the NSA can get into your iPhone, turn it on and remotely turn on apps.
Of course, Apple dismissed Snowden’s claim as “magical” – everyone knows that the iPhone was designed by Steve Jobs and is therefore completely unhackable and absolutely secure. For some reason, the company didn’t comment the well-known fact that it takes experts less than a minute to break into one.
On the other hand, a group of cunning iPhone hackers claims it is possible. The only thing the spies have to do is trick the user into installing malware before shutting down the iPhone. That malware would make the device look like it is shutting down, showing the user a fake “slide to power off” screen. But instead of powering down, the device would enter a low-power mode which leaves its baseband chip responsible for communication with the carrier on.
The chances are that the NSA could install that malware before you even bought your iPhone. Now everyone knows how NSA intercepted routers from Cisco to install backdoors, so it would just be a doddle for the agency to show up at an Apple store and install their own software before putting the devices on sale. By the way, this may explain the constant troubles with battery life which consumes power for hell knows what in great quantities.
The same hackers pointed out that that you are still able to completely turn off your iPhone so nobody can use it to spy on you (that is if you have something to hide or just don’t like the fact of being tracked). The hacker even specified that their method doesn’t involve a hammer and changing your iPhone for another device, like the Russian government did – not the hammers of course, but they changes all their iPhones for Samsungs in just one day.
So, what is the method for those who still feel they have no spare money to buy another phone right now? They can turn off their iPhones by putting the device into firmware upgrade (DFU) mode. This is a kind of “panic” state, which let the device reinstall its firmware or recover from repeated OS crashes. In DFU mode all elements of the device are entirely shut down except its USB port – that one would be waiting for a signal from iTunes to install new firmware.

No worry-remove battery
Chad you obviously never even seen an iphone much less owned one or you would know the battery is sealed. yes you can get it apart and take it out after a few screws but honestly thats just silly. For all you that are really worried at times, just wrap your phone in aluminum foil and it cannot get a signal in or out. Lets face it though, every phone is a spying device.
It can still record and email your conversations. This has been known since the 90s. It's in the Federal Telecommunications Act of 1996 I think. It mandated that there be a back door so they can do this- and if so they need no malware. All they need to do is send out a signal to activate the device.
And some phones have a backup capacitor so it can still make an emergency call(or spy on you) even without a battery.
And yes, every phone is a spying device. Which is why I haven't paid for spy service since before the turn of the millennium.
Me, I could care less because I have nothing to hide. Not only that but they can't access every phone at once. I guess a computer can pick up certain paraphrases or key words like "bomb" or "kill" etc. You get the point. We live in a time were most people think paranoid is normal and act upon it, creating chaos. Not me. I own a super simple phone that's 4 yrs old and only use it for doctors or talking to what few friends I have left. I have a fast laptop, why would I need a fancy phone anyways. Besides, apple sucks.

When I set it on the table it just lays there must be an NSA kinky thing.
They also can shave your nether region when your asleep.
And use bedbug's in our corn flake's to check our dna and spittle.

Who cares most people give up all there doings freely on facebook.
Anyways the only way a piece of crap company like crapple could survive is if they on someone like the NSA's payroll.
Thank goodness for 3rd world countries, everything takes at least 3 years to get here.
So what else is new under the sun Apple can wake on lan well big whoop what can windows do lets see how about geo locate you and monitor you even when GPS is turned off in phones menu as well as malware that monitors and logs your coming and goings they all record your emails and texts/sexts on their servers and all are really not much better than getting a loud hailer/megaphone/Bull horn and disclosing to the powers that be your personal and private information, unless you have a specialised phone that encrypts everything end to end in silent circle and stores your data securely online and not on your phone then you are just prey to the man.
@8 is correct for the money spent on a proprietary Iphone you could get a blackphone built to be secure and private a better option even if not more than 99% effective (since nothing is totally infallible)it would be a better option than just giving the corporations and NSA the keys to your kingdom.
I read some great comments on this article. Usually when Sam or Oz write anything to do with Snowden the crazies crawl out from whatever rock they are under. Cell phones and other mobile devices seem to be in most cases have little to no security. What's unbelievable is that if you have protection for your computer it takes a minute to extend that protection to your cell phone and tablets. Like was mentioned previously these conveniences are easily hacked. If you have ever plugged you iPhone to your laptop to catch a quick charge or whatever reason the person who hacked your phone now has total remote access to your computer. By the way Federal law states that any monies, boats, cars etc. that where acquired by any type of illegal business, or monies gained through such a business will be confiscated by the governing bodies involved in the surveillance, examination of records, the use of materials or any other way where involved in the arrest and conviction of persons et.al involved in __fill in the blank. That's the short version. Well I going to wrap my head in tin foil so I can use my iPhone GREAT!! article Oz

Or you can just buy a SilentPocket.
Is a sleeve that cuts off every single signal from (and to) the phone, entirely. Been using it for a while, and isn't expensive.
Better safe than sorry.

I do believe this to be true NSA can hack into an iphone or Ipad because they're just capable.
does anyone ever have an original thought? or do most just regurgitate what they have read previously....lmao
