The most popular social network in the world will now allow users who don’t like the targeted ads that constantly pop up in their News Feed to skip them. As you know, the company collects all kinds of information on you to use it to serve up targeted advertisements. This practice worries people who find it a little creepy to know that Facebook tracks their activity and uses that information to try and sell them something.
A few days ago, Facebook announced that the network members will soon be allowed to opt out of that targeted advert system using controls in their web browser or iOS and Android apps. The social network will also show you what information exactly they have collected about you. Finally, the system will suggest you to edit the kinds of adverts you want to see. Apparently, this is will be implemented in the following way: if you are confused about why you are seeing an advert for P.F. Chang’s, for instance, you can just click on the “Why am I seeing this ad?” link.
After doing so, you will see why exactly you are being shown that particular advert, and will be able to remove entire advertisement categories – for instance, restaurants – from showing up in your News Feed. Of course, there is some kind of a catch. The experts believe that Facebook has a plan to expand beyond its own social network to collect data from other sites and applications you use.
In fact, Facebook is not the first company to do so – Google and other tech giants do the same thing and if you opt out of the targeted advert system, this won’t necessarily mean that you’ll see fewer advertisements. It will just mean that the ads you see will not be targeted. The suggestion is that Facebook is going to boost its adverts revenue by having fewer, but bigger adverts on its site.

|Ads are so annoying that I will not click on any ad except to hit that X or Close as fast as possible.... Doesnt matter if its for a youtube video, here on ET or on Facebook, by interrupting me, you have assured yourself that I WILL AVOID your company as much as I can...|
If I decide to go to Home Depot, its because I needed something there, not because I was checking prices on their site for my business and you all decided to bombard me with Home Depot ads for the next few months... This activity even makes me avoid looking stuff up on the internet.... So it will cost you sales more often than get you sales..
|adblock plus. I have not seen an add for yonks. not anywhere, not on FB, here or anywhere.|
